Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Delighting in Our Gifts From God
Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:30-31
The little girl in the after-school tutoring program was confounded by the crossword puzzle. And so were the two adults trying to help. None of us could make any sense of it. After almost a half an hour of frustration, I told the very patient child that she could do something else. She asked to play a game with me. The program's rule was that a book should be read first, but considering the torture of the previous half-hour, I bent that rule. Delighted, she chose a game in which we'd take turns telling a story inspired by pictures on dice. She created stories with ease and a big smile. It was lovely to see, and I left praying that this child's sense of herself would not be determined by the standards of others, but by her delight in the flourishing of the gifts given her by the God who knows her heart.
Creator God, thank you for your care for me.

Yes, I am definitely worth more than many sparrows! And He knows all the hairs of my head, the ones growing and the ones falling!

Here is Jesus' promise in today's Gospel of Matthew 10:32-33, "Everyone who acknowledges Me before others I will acknowledge before My heavenly Father. But whoever denies Me before others, I will deny before My heavenly Father."

How do I acknowledge Jesus before others?

Matthew 10:27-28, "
* What I (Jesus) say to you (Salina) in the darkness, SPEAK in the light;
* what you hear whispered, PROCLAIM on the housetops.
* And do NOT BE AFRAID of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;
* rather, BE AFRAID of the One Who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna."

Lord Jesus, let me SPEAK and PROCLAIM You are LOVE! If necessary, let me use words! Lord, in Your great love, You answer me :-) How much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many........I testify in all that I think, say and do as the Spirit of Truth testify to You, Lord Jesus! Amen!

Thank you, Amy, for this reflection. Especially the part where you said "this child's sence of herself would not be determined by the standards of others....but by the gifts God has given her who knows her heart." Each of us needs to know we're loved by God unconditionally.
