DAILY DEVOTIONS:

'Peace With God and Others'

Ash Wednesday

Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.

- Psalm 51:3

On this day, the first day of Lent, the Church once again enters a season of renewal wherein it hopes, through God's grace, to experience a conversion of heart. It is a conversion that entails a turning of one's heart toward God. Along with other penitential practices that we might be accustomed to, like the giving up of certain things or doing our best to attend daily Mass, we might also consider that a turning toward God involves two encounters--with God and with our sisters and brothers in Christ.

Lent can and should be a very fruitful time when we make a determined effort to forgive those who may have hurt us, and when we make amends to those whom we may have offended. Making peace with God is inseparable from making peace with others. If we do our best to right wrongs during these coming weeks, we will also find peace within ourselves.

- Fr. James Stephen Behrens, O.C.S.O.

Happy Valentine's everyone.......it is all about the heart!!!

* Joel 2:12-13a, "Even now, says the LORD, return to Me with your whole HEART....... Rend your HEARTS, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God."
* Psalm 95:8, "If today you hear His voice, harden not your HEARTS."

What does it look like?

Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18, "Jesus said to His disciples:
* Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them;
* When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you,
* But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
* When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them.
* But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
* When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites.
* But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you."

Why?

* 2 Corinthians 5:18, "For our sake He (God) made Him (Jesus) to be sin Who did not know sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
* Joel 2:13b, "For gracious and merciful is He, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment."
* Romans 5:8, "But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."
* Ephesians 2:4-5, "But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)"
* 1 John 4:7-8, "Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love."
* 1 John 4:9-10, "God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."
* 1 John 4:11-12, "Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us."

Open my heart and help me receive Your love, Lord! I can't give out what I don't have. Use me as a conduit, let me pour out like a drink offering to highlight Your presence, Your provision and Your power, Lord Jesus! In Your precious Name I pray, Amen!

LF Family, You are all an inspiration to me! Bishop Barron describes Lent so beautifully and succinctly. He says that our forty day journey is "fundamentally an imitatio Christi - an imitation of Jesus' time in the desert. It's a time of simplicity, purification, and self denial, of setting aside our distractions and diversions, and getting back to basics: prayer, fasting and almsgiving."

I look forward to walking with all of my Living Faith brothers and sisters during our Lenten Journey!

In this very busy world of today we often do not take the time to spend with God that is deserved and necessary to maintain our relationship with our creator. Every year I try harder on my Lenten journey but sometimes fall short. Dear Lord help me this year to remain faithful in my devotion to you. Although it is a very hard movie to watch I try to watch " The Passion of the Christ" every year during lent, to remind myself of the terrible suffering Jesus endured to save us all from sin. May this Lenten bring us a renewed sense of the sacrifices that were made in our behalf.

As I begin my Lenten journey, with my little black book, I am recommended to bring along someone on this journey. Suggestions from the book are ST. Mark, Peter, Mary Magdalene or Mary the Mother Of Jesus.

I am going to take their suggestion and choose to walk along this journey with the Mother Of Jesus. Each day I hope to not only get closer to our Lord and Savior but also begin a closer relationship with Mary the Mother Of Jesus.

I am so excited.

Have a great day.

God Bless
