'Seeing Clearly'

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face.

- 1 Corinthians 13:12

My son recently got glasses, and his subsequent experience of unexpected clarity brought back memories.

If you've ever had corrective lenses of any type, you know how it goes. You get the glasses, or perhaps an updated prescription, and the first time you look through them, you're amazed. You knew your eyesight was a little off, but what a surprise to find out how off it actually was.

Quite often, my time on this earth is marked with the same certainty that everything is just fine, that I'm seeing life with absolute clarity, and I must be on the right path because, well, it's the path I'm on. No other reason, really.

But then, in a quiet moment of openness, moved by God's Word, so much more is revealed. In humility, I understand how fuzzy my present vision actually is and, in gratitude, contemplate what glorious clarity awaits.

Lord, I live in hope for eternal life in your loving gaze.

"O most merciful Redeemer, Friend, & Brother. May I know Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly".....St Richard. AMEN!

Good morning all!
I found this prayer from an old copy of Living Faith, and I share it with you as it seems to
echo today's reflection and comments:

Lord, you have given me your Holy Spirit to guide me toward all that is true and good
and right. Help me amid life's confusions and contradictions to listen carefully to your
voice within me. Help me to accept the truth of my situation, even if that sometimes
means accepting uncertainty and ambiguity. Help me to trust that you will bring all
things to completion when the time is right. Amen.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Yesterday was my moment of clarity. I was driving home from a 3 and 1/2 hour trip listening to heartfelt Christian music and contemplating how once again my Master and Lord is sending me down a new road of growth and new found confidence. Every time I become afraid of tackling something that will require me to spread my wings and take a risk, I turn my head and look the other way. I make all kinds of excuses not to even go there. Jesus, however, never listens to my excuses. So, here I am once again, going on a new journey wherein I must "let go and let God!" Thank you Lord for not letting me stop living. You are my strength in the midst of "change ". Amen!!

Thank you Erin for some excellent commentary. So many times in the past, I have been in the same situation wanting to run or not face my fears, etc. However, God is always there...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And he will not let us turn away from what he wants us to do.

My experience of getting my first pair of glasses was different at the age of 32! I was so used to the uncorrected vision, I got headaches trying to get used to the corrected vision.

That gave me a picture of my sins taking headaches to get corrected even with the corrected lenses!!!

I can't wait to se Jesus face to face when all will be corrected :-) Amen!

For now....

This is perfect for me today. Yesterday morning, I was on my way to a retreat and was blinded by the rising sun. As i made a left turn at an intersection, the light must have just turned and I hit a car. I kept thinking, "I said God help me. Why didn't you"? After a while, I had a moment of clarity and realized He did help me. Neither the other driver nor I was hurt and friends came right away to offer help and hugs. Throughout the rest of the day I felt a calmness and certainty that He had protected me and the man in the other car. Thank you, Lord, for letting me know once again that You're always here.

In a quiet moment this morning, while reading your divinely inspired message, I became even more acutely aware of how God has blessed me to see things more clearly. Thank you Lord.

Amen. Many times these reflections and the comments posted help me to see God working in my life. In those moments I am awed by the deep faith and love that moves my heart. Thank you Lord for the many moments of clarity you bring.
