'Thankful for Life'

Day of Prayer for the Protection of Unborn Children

For your mercy towers to the heavens,
and your faithfulness to the skies.

- Psalm 57:11

At the end of Mass, the celebrant felt moved to add a word of thanks. The choir, normally very good anyway, had risen to particularly stunning heights. So he thanked the musicians for their dedication. "And," he added cheerfully, "thanks to our baby choir too!"

That morning, as usual, the baby and toddler voices had echoed through the cathedral as well. I don't think anyone minded, and if they did, the celebrant's words of gratitude undoubtedly gave them food for thought.

We can express our respect for life in countless ways, by the decisions we make, the support we give and the lives we live. Our merciful, faithful God loves each one of us into existence. How can we say "No" when God has said "Yes!"?

And sometimes our echoes of God's "yes" are as simple as welcoming that gorgeous, raucous, baby choir, full of life.

God of Life, help me to see your "yes" in each person you have so lovingly brought to life.

- Amy Welborn

So thankful, so, so profoundly grateful today.

May all birth parents know deep, deep in their hearts, that because they said "yes", that through their pain, may they find joy and comfort, and know they have given the fullness of life, and infinitely touched, many, many people, more than they may ever realize. May they find peace, and not suffer loss, and know they are the ultimate bearers of generosity, selflessness, and love. And that they are my heroes. I can never repay them for what they have given me, but I will spend my life trying.

Thank you for the wisdom, Amy.

My comment is directed to A Sinner. As a Mom who has survived all the rebellious teen and early 20's years, please know that God has your back. We ALL make mistakes in mothering. God understands our shortcomings. I made many mistakes and bad choices as a parent and my young adults somehow managed to survive and are thriving. At one point, I was so distraught and beating up on myself and a friend finally said to me "God can redeem the years that the locusts have eaten." That helped me so much. God is a God of unfathomable grace and mercy! Be still and know that He is God!

I think I must have been there that day in Birmingham many years ago! I remember telling my parents in Mississippi about how Father embraced the children who let their voices be heard. I had never heard a priest say it in such a perfect way! We are all a part of this! So thankful for your inspiring words.

Let us all join in praying today for the protection of all unborn children. That our legislators will stand up for these babies and for what is right and enact laws that will insure the right to the gift of life that God gives to all. That this scourge of the evil of abortion will be once and for all removed from our world, and that all people will value life from its beginning to its natural end. Amen.

Please pray for my wife and her best friend. They are both very pregnant and have to work this weekend. The mid-atlantic snow storm and lack of hospital beds are making them worried. Please pray for the health and safety for moms, babies, and travelers.

Thank you Lord for all the blessings you have given to my family. Thank you for beautiful children. I feel there is not a greater blessing than to be a mother. I blessing that teaches everyday. Special prayers today for our friends who are dealing with the loss of a child due to cancer. We are truly thankful Lord to you for letting him share with his family that you and your angels were with him as his time approached. A true miracle. I pray for them today Lord; I couldn't imagine the strength it takes to come through something like this. Only with Your support would it be possible. I pray for understanding and peace. Amen.

What a fitting topic for today's readings and reflections. Respect for life. Today my heart is heavy as this is the second anniversary of my Dad's passing away. He was a man of great character and full of integrity. But so as not to send him to sainthood, he had his human faults as well as anyone. So many times I find myself wondering what would he have thought of some given circumstance or decision I was trying to make. I miss talking to him every day. An honorable man, he served his country in WWII surviving his B24 being shot down out of the sky and being a POW at the age of 23. He rarely spoke of any of his experiences preferring to live his life quietly and respectfully. He respected life. I miss him every day.

Amen, Nancy! I lost my day almost 3 years ago and I know exactly what you mean. He too was in World War II. I miss our going to church every Sunday morning and our Bob Evans breakfast afterwards. I miss his stories about the good old days. And most of all I miss him! Thanks you Lord for all the time I had with him when he was here!

Thank you Lord for my faith, my life and my family. Thank you for allowing me
To be a mother. I have the most joy watching my children grow and felt the most
Pain as well. Have mercy Lord. I have not always been the best mother - some
Of my decisions have done damage to my children. Please forgive me Lord.

Jean has gone home with the Lord yesterday afternoon! Praising God for His Mercy and Grace!

Yes to babies choir and yes to the ones going home as well. Praying for M4L today at DC.......declared states of emergency! For me, we have declared emergency to save lives, the unborn's lives whom God created in their mother's wombs, He knew them before they were born and have set them apart for His service!

A Time for Everything, Ecclesiastes 3:1-15,

"For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

What do people really get for all their hard work? I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.

And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him. What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before, because God makes the same things happen over and over again."

You have planted eternity in my heart, for nothing else will satisfy but You alone, Lord! Why do I keep looking to my family for affirmation? Why do I seek approvals from others? You are alone is sufficient! You are alone is my God! There is no other! "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." Amen!

To fear is to acknowledge, to respect, to reference, to be in awe and wonder.....

Theme is God knows what & who is called. Don't be afraid to to trust an unknown future to an all knowing God. Thank you God/Jesus/Holy Spirit for the Bible teachings today. I hope to find that existentialism today. I give You my trust! I am Your obedient servant. Thank you & grant my heart's wishes. Provide joy, health, happiness and well being to us all. Amen.
