'Relying on God'

"...you can make me clean."

- Luke 5:12

One of the greatest challenges to faith is the belief that our day-to-day problems are insurmountable. We think we should solve them ourselves; we think we need to solve them ourselves. It's said the root of sin is resisting relying on God--thinking we don't need God. But before that, you have to think you can do it yourself, without God. And yet, we encounter dozens of characters in Scripture like the leper in today's gospel reading. By all accounts, he should feel hopeless. But he doesn't ask for strength to carry on in his struggles; he doesn't ask how one might be made clean. No, he falls prostrate before Jesus and affirms, "You can make me clean." And Jesus' response to his audacity? "Be made clean."

Lord, grant me the humility to know I cannot, and need not, solve my problems myself; I turn them over to you.

Thank you Phil for your devotion.

In the Living Faith Daily Catholic Devotions booklet back in May 1, 2014, Mitch Finley incorporated this in his devotion: "And He did not work many deeds there because of their lack of faith". Matthew 13:58

Mitch goes on saying: "Matthew says here that, indeed, Jesus didn't "work many mighty deeds," not because He couldn't, but because of "their lack of faith." For Jesus', "mighty deeds" depend on faith, not vice versa.

I still have this little booklet and I wanted to share with my LF family.

In response to today's devotion, the leper falls prostrate before Jesus and "affirms," "You can make me clean." And Jesus' response to his audacity(boldness)? "Be made clean."

Jesus, let me truly and boldly believe that you are the Son of God. Let me have the faith of Leper so that I too can "affirm" rather than "ask" for mighty deeds.

Lord Jesus, I pray for me and my Living Faith family that we will entrust ourselves to you and leave all else in your hands.

Thank you for this teaching and prayer today. God always seems to hit home when I need to hear it the most. Believing our problems are too much for us and that we must do something about them is one of our greatest challenges. Letting go and turning them over to God is a so much harder than it sounds. I pray for God to teach me (us) how to do that. When you are hit with one challenge after another after another it is very hard to stay strong and let God take over when you are in such a worn down state. But He tells us repeatedly that He is there and we are not to worry.

I pray for all of us that we feel God's grace and mercy and love today and everyday and that our faith grows stronger in spite of our sadness or difficulties. In Jesus' name. Amen

It has not changed since the beginning with Adam and Eve, has it? I know better than God and He sure needs my help to get things done my way!!! How often do I think that?

Right before the leper asked, "You can make me clean." He said, 'Lord, if you wish,"

To me that is the key! There is nothing wrong with asking my human desire, but the key is to accept His divine answers! What are His answers? Yes, No, and Wait!

In the old English letters, people used to end their letters with D.V., Deo Volente meaning God willing!

I believe in Jesus, the Son of God, Who gave up His life so I can have eternal life! I believe and help my unbelief! Amen! I ask that You provide Your Spirit and protect the time I need to prepare for the Bible student lesson for Monday. D.V., Salina

"Lord, if you wish"; exactly the key words to begin our prayers! Thank you Salina.

Thanks Phil for this nugget of wisdom, a reminder we need pounded into our heads. Our world, especially the secular counterculture we see in our media and reinforced by the political posturing of so many of our political leaders, would tell us WE can solve your problems. Seldom do I hear a sincere prayer extended to our Creator. One would think the human race created itself, the universe, and everything in it. As you noted, “It’s said that the root of sin is resisting relying on God.” May God give us wisdom; may God have mercy on us.

Amen! Thank you Holy Father for this beautiful day and for today's Gospel. Thank you Lord for my faith, my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconcilliation. Please Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ, King of Endless Glory. Amen

Living Faith Family,
Please pray for me that I may have complete trust in our Lord Jesus and thus fully "let go and let God" be in control of all my needs and concerns, just as the leper on today'so Gospel. I am praying for your needs as well.

Prayers for our Living Faith Family.

Lord Jesus, I know I need you in my life and together we can get through the up and downs of life.

I rely on your blessings and grace Lord in my life. When I am troubled, I let go and let God.

Many Blessings to all.

Thank you, Mr. Rose, for your message today. I so need to be reminded to trust in God's mercy and love. I am struggling with the how, when and where of the future for my adult daughter with special, needs when I can no longer care for her. Part of me knows that the loving God who gave me this beautiful child will also give me the answers I seek. But, there is that part of me that despairs when I try to come up with answers on my own.
Marilyn | Posted on: 2019-01-11 08:10:22
Marilyn, I am praying for you and your daughter, that the Lord will guide you to the answers for caring for her. May the Lord bless you and protect you both.
