'Making Our Mark'

The Most Holy Name of Jesus

Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.

- John 1:34

When an antique piece such as a clock is serviced, the person working on it often makes a line, a slight mark, to indicate that he or she has been there. This witness mark is a testimony for anyone who follows to show the work that previously has been accomplished by another craftsman or craftswoman.

John the Baptist embodies this sense of witness mark. From the moment of his birth, his life was given over to preparing the way, to pointing in the direction of Jesus. His very being testified to the coming of the Messiah, so much so that anyone who followed could see the clear marks of John's holy life bearing witness to the One to come.

What about us? What is the witness mark we desire to leave on our beautiful yet wounded world? What evidence might we offer of a life given over in love and service?

- Sr. Chris Koellhoffer, I.H.M.

What a great question, Sr. Chris! What about me? What is my witness? As far as I know, it is the same as John the Baptist.......point others to Christ:

John 1:29-34, "Behold, the Lamb of God, Jesus, Who takes away the sin of the world.......I did not know Him, but the reason why I.......(fill in the blank).......I did not know Him, but the One Who sent.......(fill in the blank)......."

Look, Jesus is the Lamb of God, Who takes away my sins and the sin of the world! I did not know Him for 44 years, but the reason why I cannot stop talking about Him is because He saved me from destruction while I was still a sinner! I did not know Him for 44 years, but the One Who sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in my place loved me so much that He did not want me to perish but to be with Him forever!

I have seen the saving power of our God and the Salvation by our Lord! Lord Jesus, You became flesh and dwelt among us. To us who accepted You, You gave power to become the children of God. I sing praise to You, my Lord and my King! Amen!

As I near the retirement era of my life, one of my counterparts was concerned about his
35 year work contribution or mark he would be noted for. Others just left and are occasionally mentioned. What will I be remembered for?

Thank you Holy Father for this day and for today's Gospel. Thank you Lord for my faith, my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconciliation. Please Lord have mercy. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ now and forever. Amen
