Jesus gives specific instructions as he sends the disciples forth: Bring nothing extra. Don’t get distracted. Accept what peaceful households give you; don’t waste time among those who reject you. Always remember the Kingdom of God is at hand. Clear instructions, but they can be daunting.
Consider the life of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus. Some of the older nuns gossiped about the teenager’s very presence, opining that she got special treatment in the convent. When one of her sisters repeatedly splashed dirty water on her as they did the laundry, Thérèse refrained from betraying her annoyance. She stayed focused on the Lord, never trading an insult for an insult and refusing to be distracted from her charism of love.
Those who reject Jesus (or us) may be in our own families. We still love, of course. But with God’s help, we can focus on the Kingdom rather than their slings and arrows.

Amen. Happy Blessed October to my LF Family! :)
