St. Jerome
The Wonders of God
He does great things past finding out,
marvelous things beyond reckoning.
Job 9:10

Last year, I kept a daily journal that I called “A Year of Awe.” In this journal, I recorded moments when I had experiences of astonishment or awe. Some days were easy. Standing on a beach watching the sunset. Listening to a beautiful piece of music. Gazing at a baby or at Monet’s “Water Lilies.”

But what happens when the days become all too familiar and ordinary or when we find ourselves trapped inside because of weather or sickness? It wasn’t always so easy. But I discovered, sitting with my journal at the end of each day, that I just needed to keep looking. To pay closer attention to the details.

I asked: What surprised me today? What made me either sad or happy? What left me speechless or singing?

In those simple moments—a kind word, a certain slant of light, a cool breeze across my face—God did “marvelous things beyond reckoning.” God showed up. Every day.

Give me a sense of you today, Lord.

In God’s economy, there is no coincidence, Only His plan and purpose because of His love and compassion for His people even when they don't acknowledge Him....

*** It is easy when things are going well to say in Job 9:10, “He does wonderful things that can’t be understood. He does miracles that can’t even be counted.” *** When things are not going well, my favorite Psalm 23 is the place to go, “The Lord is my shepherd. He gives me everything I need. He lets me lie down in fields of green grass. He leads me beside quiet waters. He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths for the honor of His Name. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid. You are...
