St. Matthew
‘Weighty Wonder’
The heavens declare the glory of God.
Psalm 19:2

These words from Psalm 19 describe what I have somehow felt since I was a child, fascinated by what I would see in the sky. Watching sunsets, seeing crescent moons—I called them “smiling moons”—noticing the rising sun showing between trees and being amazed by rainbows. These words from Psalm 19 were such a confirmation of what I felt looking at the sky.

Recently, my experience was deepened when I read a definition from Scripture scholar Fr. Carroll Stuhlmueller, C.P., that the literal meaning of the word glory is “the weighty wonder of God’s presence.” Looking at the sky and feeling God’s presence, not just way up there but right with me as I see it, increases the blessing for me.

Perhaps soon, when you look up, take a deep breath and open yourself to the glorious presence of God.

The skies show that His hands created them. Day after day they speak about it. Night after night they make it known!” *** Isaiah 40:25-26, “So who will you compare Me with? Who is equal to Me?” says the Holy One. Look up toward the sky. Who created everything you see? The Lord causes the stars to come out at night one by one. He...

Patricia…I’m picking up and putting down a book called “Practicing the Presence of God”. I like to think that I am more aware of God in the unnoticed simple, taken for granted things in each day. “Practicing” has actually been a joy filled experience! I used to refer to a Crescent Moon as a Fingernail Moon…I will be looking now to see the Smiling Moon, smiling back at me! Thank you for your Reflection today.❣️
