Clearly, the recommendation of a friend carries weight. Jesus has encountered Philip and invited him to follow him. Philip, having previously heard from two new disciples about this holy man, is already all in. In five words, he sums up his discovery to Nathanael: “We have found the one.” Besides grace visibly at work in each of these disciples’ lives, we notice also how word of mouth from a friend can encourage a deep listening and offer confirmation to persons who notice their hearts quickening in the presence of “the one.”

We are all on a faith journey on which there may be a moment or many moments of or scepticism. Nathanael starts off being very sceptical about Jesus. Yet, the Lord keeps calling out to us, very often through others. ——— As with Nathanael we have the choice to accept or decline the invitations. ——— We need people like Philip to support us on our faith journey and we in turn need to be a Philip to others on theirs.

Thank you for your words today God bless us all Amen Amen Amen
