Steady Shelter
You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadows of the Almighty,
Say to the LORD, “My refuge, and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2

I’ve visited decaying, unsteady old buildings, some lacking windows, roofs and sturdy floors. I have passed through the dust and cobwebs, pondering the history of the place within my lively imagination. But I would rather not dwell too long in such spaces.

For a shelter to be a dwelling place, it must be sturdy and secure—trustworthy—like a steady, loving relationship. If I feel comfortable and safe, I know I can take up space, settle in. I can reside. And so it is with our Creator, who not only protects and shelters us but holds us when we are unsteady. He guides us along and provides for our needs. In relationship with the Holy One, we don’t have to prove or earn anything. God’s grace is not due to our efforts and merits.

In the shelter of the Almighty, let us reside and rest.

*** What does this shelter of the Most High build upon? The love and the blood of Jesus Christ in Revelation 1:5c, “Glory and power belong to Jesus Christ Who loves us! He has set us free from our sins by pouring out His blood for us!” *** What is required of me staying in the shelter of the Most High? To love Jesus, trust in the Name of Jesus and call on the Name of Jesus in Psalm 91:14-16, “The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love Me. I will protect those who trust in My Name. When they call on Me,...

When I think about shelter. I always think about being in Hawaii. The rain showers last for a few minutes, there might be a down pour and the. The sun comes out a few minutes later. The bus stops some had shelter some didn’t. When the bus arrived I was either soaked or dry (If there was a sheltered covered waiting area) it was an experience. My brother’s house is a great shelter with a view of the ocean that I meditated with a specular view of the ocean. As I get ready to leave the Island tomorrow morning, the...

Scott thank you for that description. I don't have the chance to travel much but Hawaii is one place I would love to go. That description let me live it vicariously :). What a soothing vision it gives
