Today’s Gospel are oft-quoted verses of the New Testament that summarize well its entire message. It is positive in that God did not come to “condemn” the world but to “save” it (v. 17). Moreover, “everyone who believes in him” will be saved. Thus, God offers salvation to all.
But this Gospel also issues a warning: those who do not believe have “already been condemned” (v. 18). It challenges us, and the stakes could not be higher. How we respond to the Son of God determines our fate.
For me, it is an ongoing daily call to grapple with my relationship with Jesus. I must daily choose to believe and to trust in him. I pray that my life gives witness to that belief.
