St. Paul VI
Love’s Intensity
Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8

What does “intense” love look like? It doesn’t mean it is possessive or overbearing—the eloquent definition St. Paul provides in 1 Corinthians 13 certainly always applies! But perhaps we could think of intense love as being “undiluted” or concentrated, not having an agenda or other motives. And love of that sort can help make up for our shortcomings; it can even pave the way for reconciliation when we are off course. Whether your love is expressed in hospitality, preaching, service or some other gift or ministry, remember that they are divinely distributed, having their source in “God’s varied grace” (v. 10).

So, today, rely on Jesus to help your love find a new level of intensity. Go the extra mile, pay a little closer attention, extend a hand to someone you might find difficult. Then pause to thank God that you get to be an amplifier of God’s glory and a participant in his mission of mercy.

*** Peter’s warning of the coming of the end of the world so pray earnestly in 1 Peter 4:7, “The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers!” *** What to pray for in 1 Peter 4:8-11a, “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another....
