Words and Actions
…those who preached the Good News to you…
1 Peter 1:12

When did you first learn about Jesus? Was he simply part of the air you breathed as a child in a family that went to Mass, prayed together and sent you to parochial school? If so, who were the priests, religious and lay teachers that nurtured your budding faith?

Perhaps you didn’t come to know the Lord until later in your life through a campus minister, good friend or your spouse who uncovered the portal to faith and invited you to enter. Maybe it was someone quietly living their faith, someone you observed from afar, that attracted you to the life of a believer.

The Gospel is meant to be shared, to be communicated by words and actions, by examples of faithful lives. Every day as a Christian, you are preaching the Good News to the world. You are the Word of God made manifest! Let’s all work on our communication skills!

O Lord, that today my words and actions might be yours!

I first learned about Jesus when I was in Catholic elementary and high schools for 11 years in Hong Kong. Nothing came of it and I don’t recall anything except I failed religion exams :-( *** Starts with servants of the Lord serving His people in 1 Peter 1:12a, “ It was made known to the prophets that they were not serving themselves. Instead, they were serving you when they spoke about the things that you have now heard.” *** Continues with servants of the Lord in declaring the Good News in 1 Peter 1:12b, “Those who have preached the Good...

Amen Jennifer what you have written I subscribe to totally. Well at least I try to but I’m not always successful.— I love these quotes “Be careful how you live; you may be the only Bible some people ever read,” by William J Toms and has a rich history in Christian literature and “Preach the gospel at all times; if necessary, use words”— The exact phrase by St Francis is, "All the Friars... should preach by their deeds." He wasn't telling the Friars to avoid speaking; he was reminding them that their behaviour must match their message.— Your actions give...

Jennifer thank you for your reflection and the great communication skills you have in writing. Your words stir up many emotions for me. I was raised from day one in faith but as a child only saw words not actions. My father struggled very hard being single parent and turned to God but forgot about me and raising me. Yet, I know now that God was with me because I had to raise myself and he always protected me in some way. I must trust in that now! Blessings to all the LFF, especially those with extra needs these days....

Blessings Jennifer for the challenge to carry and live out the word of God daily in our lives. I was like most people in the Bible tried to run away from God: Thing of Moses, Jonah, Joseph (did not want to take Mary at first) even Mary had her fear. God found them anyway and changed them. God found me and called me to ministry where I have been for 31 years now. Praise and give thanks for God words changes us, forgives, loves and give us courage to share the word with compassion and care always.
