The Ascension of the Lord
Why Wait?
…wait for the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak…
Acts 1:4

I do not like to wait. I pick the shortest line, I walk quickly and I like my pasta al dente. I suppose this trait reflects a lack of patience. The person with whom I am the least patient is God. Instead of praise and honor, my prayers sound something like this: “What about that prayer request?” or “Why am I still struggling with this?” or “Are you listening, God?” Yet, the truth is he does hear my prayers; he carries my struggles and knows what I need even before I ask.

Today, Jesus’ command to the disciples is to wait and pray. Let us join the Apostles in the Upper Room for the first novena and pray that in nine days the Holy Spirit will come into every part of our lives. It is worth the wait!

Today’s reading in Acts 1 reminds me of God’s sovereignty in His “omni” attributes - The "omni" attributes of God define the divine nature as infinite and supreme, primarily encompassing omnipotence (all-powerful), omniscience (all-knowing), and omnipresence (everywhere present). These attributes highlight God’s sovereign control, perfect knowledge, and constant presence throughout creation. *** God knew about Judas betraying Jesus in Acts 1:16, “Peter said, “Brothers and sisters, a long time ago the Holy Spirit spoke through David. He spoke about Judas Iscariot. What the Scripture said would happen had to come true. Judas was the guide for the men who arrested Jesus!” ***...

*** Patience? Where does it come from? Patience is the fruit of the Holy Spirit and only He can give me to receive! Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit (singular and not plural) of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law!” *** How do I do that…wait for patience? Psalm 46:10a, “Be still, and know that I AM God!” *** Let’s take a look at God’s patience ✝️ 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow to keep His promise. He is not slow in the way some people understand it. Instead, He is patient...

You remind me of me, not now but the me of my past. Patience was not one of my virtues and was filed under need to do better.—-Today it’s in my work in progress file, I guess I’m 80% patient, 20% not so much.—-20% is still a lot to work on but I have noticed a significant change when my actions involve my relationships with people I 100% of the time wait on the Lord.—-Waiting on the Lord is an active, trusting, and patient expectation that God will fulfil His promises, strengthen your spirit, and act in His perfect timing....

Sr. Mary Mercy Lee thank you for those comments. Ah how I know how you feel LOL Kinda like that phrase "God grant me patience and give it to me now." I so believe that God is there and will be here for us, but how hard it is to wait. My heart breaks at all the struggles in the world. Blessings to all the LFF, especially those with extra needs these days. Vicky G. hoping you and your family are doing ok. Holy Spirit fill the hearts of all and guide us to a more heavenly earth.

When I click on mass readings of the day it takes me to the USCCB site and readings are different. I’m grateful for the readings listed for today but questioning which is correct?

LAL, good catch! I noticed the same thing. I attended Mass this morning and we followed the readings from the USCCB site (the gospel reading was from John, not Matthew).

LAL They explained to me that today is the feast of Saint Mathias he's the guy who replaced judas. But it is also 40 days after Easter that's the feast of the Ascension we have the option, in our area. Living faith family please keep praying for Cindy she not on my route for Feedmore for the second week. I will contact social worker. But they sometimes don't share. Prayers will help whatever. Patience is not my strength I am working on that and like Stormi said I want it right now. Keep our elected leader in your prayers they'll...

The Ascension is a holy day that "moves" according to the decisions of the diocesan Bishops. Some dioceses in the US still celebrate the Ascension, 40 days after Easter, today. Other dioceses have moved it to a Sunday. If you click on the USCCB website page for today there are two sets of readings for this feast, according to the local practice in your diocese. The same for this coming Sunday. Some dioceses will celebrate the Ascension and some the Seventh Sunday of Easter.

*** I think whichever one speaks to you and makes a difference in your everyday life is the right one! *** If both readings speak to you and make a difference in your everyday life, then both are the correct ones! *** If neither reading speaks to you, then neither is the correct one! ******* Isaiah 55:10-11, “The rain and the snow come down from the sky.. They do not return to it without watering the earth. They make plants come up and grow. The plants produce seeds for farmers. They also produce food for people to eat. The Words...
