Unfortunately, it is not difficult for us these days to imagine the terror that those families felt when Saul and his minions raided their houses and dragged Christians off to imprisonment. Saul was not interested in their reasons for proclaiming and worshiping Christ. He was only interested in enforcing what he believed were proper beliefs for Jews.
Yet, we see God’s hand in the unintended consequences of Saul’s actions. In scattering the faithful, he scattered Jesus’s disciples. They were the first powerful witnesses of the Good News. By staying out of reach of Saul, they also spread by word and deed the Savior’s message. Saul’s cruelty, ironically, was like a puff of air on a dandelion, and the seeds of salvation were blown far and wide.
It is so hard for us sometimes to know what good can come of evil. Yet, at a moment of “severe persecution”
(Acts 8:1b), Jesus’s message of hope began to spread throughout an empire.

Jesus is still urging us on to be those dandelion seeds not only to spread His name and word but to unite us under His teachings. I have seen people’s attitudes and beliefs about Catholic believers dramatically change as I have forged and built friendships among Protestant friends.My...

And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this...
