Here we are, in the days after Easter, and the world is trembling. In the account from Acts, we hear the Apostles praying and asking God to “enable your servants to speak your word with all boldness” (v. 29). Be careful what you pray for! The building shakes, and the Holy Spirit sweeps in. The great work of evangelization just can’t be stopped.
Thousands of years later, the world still trembles at the extraordinary news of Christ’s resurrection. This Scripture leaves no doubt: What Jesus achieved was, in the very best sense, earth-shaking.
As we celebrate these first days of the Easter season, it’s easy to be captivated by the flowers, the soaring “Alleluias” in church, the people dressing up, the baskets of candy and colorful eggs. But let’s also remember the impact of the first Easter on our world—death conquered, hope restored, love triumphant.
It can be overwhelming, so walk carefully. We’re still feeling the aftershocks.
