The Octave of Easter
Food As Love
Have you anything here to eat?
Luke 24:41

In this post-resurrection account, Jesus asks for something to eat. He uses the simplest human act of sharing food to reassure his confused disciples: “Peace. It’s really me.” Ghosts don’t eat food; real people do. This is Jesus.

My late grandfather’s love language was food. Papa enjoyed eating almost as much he enjoyed nourishing others with meals. Eating, my papa taught me, transcends tradition and physical need. Preparing food, serving it to others and coming together to eat is a way of life, just like the Eucharist is to our Church family. We become the Body of Christ by physically eating the Eucharist, and we receive the love that is God into our hearts. When we lovingly prepare food for others and gather them together, we are reminded that just as Jesus offers us the Bread of Life, we are offering a small taste of God’s goodness through the gift of food with wholesome and delicious love.

Jesus, nourish me so that I may nourish others.

Kate how true your words. Food along with friendship/positive relationships heal and that healing spreads through all the world. Vicky G your words yesterday hit close to home for me. I live in a community with many new people coming in that have a great deal and I mean a great deal of money. They and their kids are driving expensive cars and they live in mansions yet, the parents work so much that they aren't home with their kids. Not only the kids but the parents miss out on the completeness of life and what it's all about. Spending...

Reminds me of this quote, “Family who eats together stays together!” From Google AI, “ Key Benefits of Family Meal *** Strengthened Relationships: Mealtime provides a dedicated space for conversation, laughter, and sharing, helping family members reconnect daily. *** Better Health Habits: Children who eat with their families often have better nutrition, higher fruit and vegetable intake, and a lower risk of obesity or disordered eating. *** Child Development: Regular family meals are linked to higher self-esteem, better academic performance, and improved vocabulary in children. *** Reduced Stress: Sharing meals helps parents and children decompress, reducing the stress associated with...

Praying for the servant leaders serving at Emmaus Walk this Thursday through Sunday, especially Matt (my husband), Brian and Chris that God gives you His eyes to see, His ears to hear, His mouth to speak, His heart to pray, His wisdom to discern, restful sleep to serve and encounters to encourage in Colossians 3:23-24, “Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for human masters. Work because you know that you will finally receive as a reward what the Lord wants you to have. You are slaves of...
