Holy Thursday
Fed by the Eucharist
This is my body that is for you.
1 Corinthians 11:24

Virtually all of the great saints had a strong, personal devotion to the Eucharist.  Similarly, those who convert to Catholicism often mention the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. And when you ask Catholics why they stay, they will also likely cite the Eucharist.

These personal witnesses speak volumes about the truth of what the Church teaches. In the Eucharist, Jesus is truly present. We are nourished by his Body and Blood.  It is “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, para. 1324).

I would describe our connection to the Eucharist as “visceral.” It is a deep bond, beyond words, that draws us to the Church and to its Mass. It nourishes us. It feeds us. We would be bereft without it.

*** Foreshadowing of the Lord’s supper in Exodus 12:3, 6-8, 12-13, “Speak to the whole community of Israel. Tell them that on the tenth day of this month each man must get a lamb from his flock. A lamb should be chosen for each family and home.…Take care of them until the 14th day of the month. Then the whole community of Israel must kill them when the sun goes down. Take some of the blood. Put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where you eat the lambs. That same night eat the meat...

The body of Christ ✝️ *** Ephesians 1:23, “The church is Christ’s body and is filled by Christ. He fills everything in every way!” *** Colossians 1:18a, “And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, which is the Church!” *** Romans 12:4-5, “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other!”

We are all fed by the Eucharist, the Passover Meal that Jesus broke his body in love, so that love of God is shared with all people. The blood poured out so that humans are forgiven and no one will be thirsty. I thirst for love, I thirst for justice, I thirst for peace. I thirst for forgiveness. I find myself fulfilled with I take the body of Christ and find my thirst filling me up with joy and thanksgiving because Jesus broke his body and pour out his blood for us in this beloved community of faith. Blessings on...

The Holy Eucharist - the true presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ - given to us to strengthen us in our faith, until we come face to face in His heavenly Kingdom. I pray that all who approach the altar will do so with reverence and praise and thanksgiving for this heavenly gift. Come Lord Jesus take up residence in our hearts that we might feed others with your love and your mercy. Amen
