Wednesday of Holy Week
Ever Faithful
See, the Lord GOD is my help;
who will prove me wrong?
Isaiah 50:9a

People—spouses, parents, children, BFFs, neighbors—will let us down. They seldom intend to do it in an evil, cruel way. More often than not, they forget about promises to us because they have stuff going on, sometimes stuff we don’t even know about. Nobody knew that better than Jesus during his earthly life. Yet, he still sacrificed that earthly life for his friends—and for us.

We can have confidence that the Lord God always listens, remembers and loves us. The Almighty hears our cries, the ones we shout out loud and the ones we whisper in our souls. The answer always comes, maybe not the one we want or at the time we think we need it but the right one, in God’s time. As we approach the holiest days of the liturgical year, may we offer praise and thanks to the One who never forgets.

Abba, you always provide comfort and solace to me. I ask that you help me do the same for the people in my life.

The Book of Isaiah is considered the "Gospel of the Old Testament" (or "Fifth Gospel") because it contains the most comprehensive and detailed prophetic picture of Jesus Christ, His ministry, and His sacrificial death. Today’s readings point to God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises (prophecies)!!! *** Prophecy of the exile to Babylon and return back to Jerusalem in Isaiah 50:1-2a, “The Lord says to the people in Jerusalem, “Do you think I divorced your people who lived before you? Is that why I sent them away? If it is, show Me the letter of divorce. I did not sell you...

I was introduced to Isaiah 50 in a worship class that I took when I was 23 and it became a scripture reading when I was ordained into the ministry. One of my favorites because Isaiah 50 describes what challenges we go through as human beings especially in the instances that Melane describes in the devotional reading. God never forgets. "The sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary. God wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught." (NIV) I really appreciate this as a person...

Whenever I am down, I always try to remember that God did not put me on this earth to have all the answers. I may not always understand his answers or His timing, but I have come to realize that, in the end, His answers and His timing are always perfect. Remembering this helps me to get through the difficult times and to give Him praise and thanks for His answers and his timing.
