Love Is Stronger Than Betrayal
…I say to you, one of you will betray me…
John 13:21

An act of betrayal begins the sacred events of the Triduum. Jesus eats the Last Supper meal with his disciples, an act of intimate friendship and sharing of living faith. And in the familial context of a shared meal, one of his disciples turns against his master. This same disciple heard Jesus preach, witnessed his miracles and saw him compassionately restore the sick and dying to health and new life.

Yet, the pull of sin toward betrayal was Judas’ response to God’s love revealed in the life and ministry of Jesus. The betrayer stands for all humanity alienated from God. Yet, betrayal is not the final word on the human condition. God’s love has the final say.

For Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection reveal that divine love is stronger than human betrayal and sin. Only the Son of God could bring humanity this graced possibility of our resurrection from the darkness of sin and betrayal.

Scott, I will keep your daughter and your entire family in my prayers. I had a similar situation with our daughter who deals with anxiety and depression and I understand how difficult this time can be for everyone involved. Your faith and trust in the Lord will guide you through. My daughter has since found her faith and even made rosaries for my family a couple years ago for Christmas. May God’s light shine on all of you.

Indeed, “For Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection reveal that divine love is stronger than human betrayal and sin” since the beginning of time in the garden of Eden!!! *** Holy week started long before Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver! It started at the beginning in Genesis 3:14-15, “So the Lord God spoke to the serpent. He said, “Because you have done this, “You are set apart from all livestock and all wild animals. I am putting a curse on you. You will crawl on your belly. You will eat dust all the days of your life. I will make you and the woman...

Scott, my prayers are with you as your faith is being tested during this difficult time. From a young age my sister struggled with mental illness and I and her other siblings did our best to help her. After much love and prayers she was able to live on her own. Amazingly she also came to great faith and shared with all, the love and healing power of Jesus that saved her. Years later, when she passed, we her family, were touched by the outpouring of love and condolences from all those in the community whose lives she had touched,...

Behold Salvation comes to us in the strength to love. Thank you Jem for your words today. My family is in need of this Ohana (Family) to pray for me, wife and child (21). Yesterday, she had a neurological exam and everything is normal, no abnormal findings. Just that she had some dark thoughts and was not going to harm herself or others. She was admitted to the psychiatric hospital north of where we live in Central, VA. My daughter was scared as there was a person who had a breakdown and was not able to get calm. Daughter is...

Oh Scott, I will pray for each of you throughout the day. It doesn’t help now but may help in knowing you are not alone—many Holy Weeks years ago we went thru the same with our son after he was diagnosed with the same Muscular Dystrophy as I have. We got a call from the ER 2 hours away since he was in college at the time. We got to the ER where 3 of his best college buddies were waiting. He was admitted to a facility, we drove home in the wee hours of the morning in pouring rain...
