I recently read an informative and fascinating book written by Clint Hill, a Secret Service agent who served five presidents and was assigned to give personal protection to Jacqueline Kennedy. The agent’s reflections in the book, Mrs. Kennedy and Me, easily prompt me to consider the outstanding service in the life of St. Joseph. God called Joseph to protect and provide for the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus. He was not a member of the Secret Service, but Joseph was an agent for Sacred Service. Many accolades and titles have been showered on him as spouse, foster father, worker, carpenter and more. But I think his most fitting and precious title is Servant. Joseph is the just, patient and attentive servant of God. He was on call to receive vital info, even during his dreams as he slept!
Years later, Jesus would proclaim and demonstrate that true greatness lies in serving others.

Sacred servants are everyday people who are called to serve others with humility, joy, care/compassion and most of all love. Joseph was hesitant to take the Beloved Mary to be his wife. The Angel of the Lord showed up he humbly went forward to take her. There are many stories of people trying to run away from the call of God. Moses tried to make excuses, Jonah certainly did not want to go to Ninevah and tried to run, he was left with anger at the very end of the story. Ironically, I did the same, did not want to...

God calls (credits) both Joseph and Abraham as “righteous!” What does it really mean and how do I get that righteousness? *** Romans 4:13-16, “It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless, because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace...

The people mentioned in today’s readings reminds me of “servants!” *** David in 2 Samuel 7:4-5a, “But that night the Word of the Lord came to Nathan. The Lord said, “Go and speak to My servant David.” *** Abraham in Genesis 26:24, “That night the Lord appeared to him (Issac). He said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid. I am with you. I will bless you. I will increase the number of your children because of My servant Abraham.” *** Mary in Luke 1:38, “Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything You have said about me come true.”...

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press...
