You’ve probably heard the term “love language.” It’s about how we express and experience love. People vary on this score, and in any relationship, from marriage to parenting to friendship, it can really help to understand those differences.
What’s Jesus’ “love language”? Sacrifice would be first, I think. But then I considered how he spoke to his audiences—that is, us. Sometimes he’s direct: “Love your neighbor,” but other times—as here with this parable—his words are confusing, sometimes frustrating, confounding and upend expectations.
Could it be that part of Jesus’ “love language” is to gently and persistently remind me to never rest comfortably in my own worldview? That God always has more to reveal to me, and that I always have more to learn?

AMEN!

Amy, ah your words, reflect personal struggles in life especially those of faith. It is my struggle each and everyday. Patience is the talent I seem to feel God wants me to use these days LOL I'm guessing that is a talent that most of us use on a daily basis. Blessings to all the LFF. May those with extra needs these days feel the guiding hand of God to get through the hard times. May the Holy Trinity fill the hearts of all and lead us to a heavenly earth.

*** The disciples had the same question for Jesus in Matthew 13:10, “His disciples came and asked Him, “Why do You use parables when You talk to the people?”” *** Here is Jesu’ answer to their and your question in Matthew 13:11-15, “He replied, “Because you (believers with the Holy Spirit) have been given the knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of heaven. It has not been given to outsiders (unbelievers without the Holy Spirit). Everyone who has this kind of knowledge will be given more knowledge. In fact, they will have very much. Thank you Amy, Scott and Patrick for helping to unravel the mysteries of this parable. I may be old, but I am still listening and learning from LFF in humility.

When I sat down to comment, it took a long time to figure out what to write. I also commend you Amy for your reflection and you Scott for your comment, both in themselves are examples of love language in action, as are the comments of all LF contributors. ——— I believe we are on a continuum of learning and growth throughout eternity. ——— I believe the first reading reminds us that the things of this world are impermanent and to keep focused on the bigger picture. ——— I believe the parable of the talents is a reminder that how...

Amy, I commend you on taking on this challenging parable of the talents/gifts. Use the gifts you are given and God will bless you with more. Don’t use the gifts/talents God blesses you with, I don’t think God is too happy with us. There is always more to learn about love language. Always more to learn about unconditional love between human beings. More to grow in God’s word that touches all people differently. More to give thanks and praise for this LFF which is a special group that always gives me more to understand of how God works in talent/gifts/blessings...
