St. John XXIII
Glimmers of Light
Light dawns for the just;
and gladness, for the upright of heart.
Be glad in the LORD, you just,
and give thanks to his holy name.
Psalm 97:11-12

A friend is going through a terrible, world-shifting time. Life today looks completely different than it did even six months ago. She’s done what she could, but she really can’t do any more. It’s hard and sad. We do what we can to accompany those in difficult places. But it’s a challenge to offer words that don’t end up sounding like empty platitudes, isn’t it? Or even, if we’re going through our own hard times, reading words like the psalmist’s and believing them.

Perhaps one answer, then, is not simply to speak or read these words but to actually try to pray them. In that space in deep communion with the Lord, even in darkness, we can see glimmers of light.

Lord, let your love bring hope to all who suffer.

Amen Amy, perfectly said. When life is shrouded in darkness just a glimmer can be the lighthouse we need for ourselves or we can be the glimmer for another. ——— In one of my darkest periods I came across Isaiah 42:3 “He will not break a bruised reed, nor will he snuff out a smoldering wick; faithfully he will establish justice.” ——— Did I read it or hear it, I can’t remember, but it was a glimmer of light that stuck with me ever since. ——— Whether to pray or speak can be a difficult choice. I believe prayer first.

AMy ah a heavy sigh of relief with your words. They help to relax and focus more on the day with a clear mind. Thank you Blessings to all the LFF, especially those with extra needs these days. May the Holy Trinity fill the hearts of all to guide us to a heavenly earth. Extra prayers for Melissa Engle going through a bone marrow transplant now for cancer.

Offering prayers for you and your parents Scott. May God’s glimmers of light surround all of you now as you navigate this challenging time. Remember to take moments for yourself too as caregivers also need nourishment and strength.

Thank you Mary, I am taking care of myself by reading the daily mass readings, meditating on each one, praying for the words to guide me in my dark and light experiences. Then write my journal, and read the devotional. I read Amy’s devotional and had one of those spiritual moments connected in this LFF. Praise be to the One who provides the strength to go through the dark times and into light of f Jesus always.

The Psalms are prayers of the psalmists ✝️ *** I have learned to pray God’s Word each and every time…that’s how I am changed…not to ask God to give me what I want but to align my thinking into wanting what God wants by praying His Words ✝️ *** 1 John 5:14-15, “Here is what we can be sure of when we come to God in prayer. If we ask anything in keeping with what He wants, He hears us. If we know that God hears what we ask for, we know that we have it!” *** Isaiah 55:11, “The...

Amy the Spirit is alive and well within you. Your words are exactly what I need to read, meditate and pray on all day. I have an adjective to describe you and that is Amazing Amy. I am going through difficulty with my dad living with dark dementia. My mom is in rehab because she just had back surgery. I am here temporarily caring for my dad who needs safer environment to live in before I leave and go back to my home, family and job.. I need the light of God to shine more than ever to direct him...

I am sorry for your dad's diagnosis of dementia - it's hard. I cared for my mother after she was diagnosed with mixed dementia (Alzheimer's and vascular dementia). Lots of prayers, some tears, laughter, and help from the Holy Spirit and friends kept me going. I also found resources through the Alzheimer's Association and her physician. (https://www.alz.org - "Find local resources"). I hope you will be able to find a new and comfortable living arrangement for him. May you, your parents, and family all feel God's love, peace and grace.

Scott...Know we have you and your Mom & Dad covered in prayer. I save things I read that touch my heart, these are 2 that came to mind for you ~ In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.” AND... "Lord, help me to always remember that you chose me to be here now, doing your will."

Praying for you Scott, the recovery of your Mom and the care for your Dad in Isaiah 41:10, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand!” Amen ✝️ *** Here is another amazing Amy…Thy Word by Amy Grant https://youtu.be/kI1ABsX4Fgo?si=Yi8orWC69Cmwu0VU *** Posting Bible verses in all the right places at your Dad’s new place will be very helpful ✝️ *** God’s Word is the only offensive weapon in the armor of God in Ephesians 6:17b, “take...

Thank you, Amy for that bit of encouragement. It is good to know that although we may not be able to change the world, we can at least pray for it.
