A few years ago, I had dinner with my two best friends. It was a blessed evening of Kansas City barbecue and good conversation. At the end of the night, I was incredibly contented by the love we shared and the food we enjoyed.
But that contentedness didn’t last. The next day I was hungry again. Both the food and the love that was shared was finite. It could not sustain us forever.
St. Augustine famously said, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”
Only Jesus can fulfill our every desire, for only he offers food and drink that will never fail: his very Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, given in love through the Eucharist. Those who receive him in faith will never hunger, for Jesus offers all that we were made for: the love found in the Kingdom of God.
Jonathan your words put a gentle smile on my face. I haven't been able to be with some good friends like that for ahwile now but the vision of you doing that enlightens my heart. It brings back some great memories and puts a smile on my face. I am thankful I have had those times to recall. God had a hand in all those wonderful times. Blessings to all the LFF. Extra prayers for all those going through hard times and may God fill the hearts of the president and all those working with/for him with the Holy Spirit to lead this country under God. This Friday is my procedure asking for prayers of good results to be cancer free.
AMEN!
When I majored in Physical Chemistry in graduate school, I learned the laws of thermodynamics. And calculus gave me the equations to calculate the thermodynamic properties and solve the problems of different paths and processes invloving temperature, pressure and volume! Why do I think of that? Today's reading reminds me of the equations given in Scripture to solve the problem of different paths and processes of my thinking!!! *** Jesus = the Bread of Life in John 6:35a, "And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life!" *** Jesus = the Word in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God!" *** Therefore, the Bread of Life = the Word! ******* My daily Bread is the Word of God in Scripture and not the physical bread like the manna in the desert! Matthew 4:4, "But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” *** Job 23:12, "I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured His Words more than daily food!" *** Psalm 119:11, 105, "I have hidden Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.......Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path!" *** Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of our God stands forever.” *** Isaiah 55:11, "It is the same with My Word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it!" *** Jeremiah 15:16a, "When I received Your Words, I ate them. They filled me with joy." *** Matthew 22:29, "Jesus replied, “You are mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures. And you do not know the power of God." *** Matthew 24:35, "Heaven an earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away!"
Amen. :)
This is just beautiful, Jonathan... excellent food for thought to live by
