The Octave of Easter
‘Companions of Jesus’
…and they recognized them as the companions of Jesus.
Acts 4:13

Years ago, I walked into a corner store and found myself in the middle of a terrible situation. The boyfriend of the woman who owned the store was in a rage. They argued regularly, but things had escalated. I could’ve just turned around and walked out. But that was impossible for me. I stood in the way of this man until help arrived.

That was an extreme circumstance, and I absolutely do not recommend putting yourself in harm’s way. But somewhere along the line, we all have the experience of not being able to stay silent in the face of a cruel injustice. Whether in person or through speaking out about wrongs and injustices, we’ve all felt compelled to come to the aid of another. Whether we are bold in the moment or act quietly behind the scenes, may we be open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance when it’s our time to act. May it be obvious that we are companions of Jesus.

Total Surrender: "Lean on your Beloved because the soul who abandons themselves in the hands of Jesus in all they do, is carried in His arms." St. Clare of Assisi

*** The situation and the response of Jesus’ companion in Acts 4:17, 19, “We have to stop this thing. It must not spread any further among the people. We have to warn these men. They must never speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.”…But Peter and John replied, “Which is right from God’s point of view? Should we listen to you? Or should we listen to God? You be the judges!” *** Reminds me of the chorus of The Gambler, “You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away and know...
