Lenten Weekday
When All You Can Do Is Pray
…whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.
Matthew 25:40

In this story of the final judgment, Jesus teaches that the criterion of judgment, will be deeds of mercy done for the least of Jesus’ brothers. In our lives today, we learn the criterion is still what we do for those in need. Every day on the news we hear of the great suffering of those living in conditions of war. It is hard to hear those stories and feel like we do not have any way to help them. All I have been able to do is to pray. Every day, I pray for those who are hungry, thirsty, in need of medicine, forced from homes, perhaps held captive or in dire need.

Talking to someone in my parish about wishing I could do something, she said, “Your loving, compassionate prayers matter. You are doing something good for these people.”

Jesus, help us realize as we pray for those suffering in war, we are doing something loving for you.

*** Do you know that your lives don’t belong to you? *** If you believe and accept the ransom Jesus has paid, you belong to Christ in 1 Corinthians 6:15a, 19-20a, “Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? …Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price!” *** Wrong and right attitudes about living my life in James 4:13-16, “Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil!”

" We must pray without ceasing, in every occurrence and employment of our lives - that prayer which is rather a habit of lifting up the heart to God as in a constant communication with Him." St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Prayers for all in need around the world and for the needs of the LFF.

I pray fervently and send a donation to World Central Kitchen. They are a fabulous organization that feeds people in war torn countries and people suffering from natural disasters.

Can you picture this final scene, the start of eternity? *** Jesus is coming back in Matthew 25:31-32a, "The Son of Man will come in all His glory. All the angels will come with Him. Then He will sit in glory on His throne. All the nations will be gathered in front of Him!" *** Are you the sheep or goat in Matthew 25:32b-33, "He will separate the people into two groups. He will be like a Shepherd Who separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep to His right and the goats to His left!" *** Your choice in eternal punishment (goat) or eternal life (sheep) in Matthew 25:45-46, "He will reply, ‘What I’m about to tell you is true. Anything you didn’t do for one of the least important of these, you didn’t do for Me.’ “Then they will go away to be punished forever. But those who have done what is right will receive eternal life.” ******* The key is in Leviticus 19:2, 3, 4, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 24, 28, 30, 31, 32, 34, 36, 37, "I am the Lord your God!"

What is the purpose of Prayer? *** Prayer is not about getting God to give me what I want! It is about me learning to want what God wants to give! *** Jesus gave us an example of prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, "This is how you should pray. “ (PRAISE AND WORSHIP) ‘Our Father in heaven, may Your Name be honored. May Your Kingdom come. (GOD'S WILL BE DONE) May what You want to happen be done on earth as it is done in heaven. (SUPPLICATIONS FOR OTHERS AND US) Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, just as we also have forgiven those who sin against us. (ASKING FOR STRENGTH) Keep us from sinning when we are tempted. Save us from the evil one.’" *** The main purpose of prayer is WORSHIP and develop a RELATIONSHIP with GOD Himself! ******* Theme of 2024-2025 BSF, "By His Grace and For His Glory!"

*** Starting a 40-day prayer journal specifically for my daughter, Katie, the self proclaim agnostic to come back and walk with Jesus, her Savior and soon to be Lord ✝️ ***Day one - praying the 2025 Bible verse (I have Bible verse to pray for each member of my family including myself each year prompted by the Holy Spirit) for Katie in Hosea 14:4-5, “Then the Lord will answer, “My people always wander away from Me. But I will put an end to that. My anger has turned away from them. Now I will love them freely. I will be like the dew to Israel. They will bloom like a lily. They will send their roots down deep like a cedar tree in Lebanon!” ✝️ Amen ❤️ *** Lord Jesus, You are faithful and we are faithless! Thank You for the prompting of the Holy Spirit for me to pray for Katie specifically for the next 40 days! There is nothing in us that can change her heart but You alone Who can! I am grateful for Your grace and mercy that we don't deserve, but that's Who are ✝️ Amen ❤️

I pray each day for those at the front line of war, that both parties don't want to be there and go home. I had a dream where I saw someone in white, carrying a torch, walking across the battlefield between enemy lines. All that saw the light stood up and followed with their eyes and were amazed. It was so silent and calm and peaceful. Amen!

Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those in need. Come to the side of those experiencing violence in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, and the Sudan. Please hear the pleas of all those suffering around the world - and give them strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

As I've read the dire headlines in these past few weeks, I feel that your devotion today is well received, Patricia. Along with jane's daily prayer I am comforted by the fact that our prayers here are truly worthwhile.

Bill I agree the daily prayers are doing great let's keep them up. Jane keep them coming still keep scoop in my prayers good news about him feel better. When I was in Vietnam I often had that dream about someone walking between the two groups making peace. The people that I encountered all just said that they wanted to be left alone, the way they were. Children there were friendly and love our mispronounced way of greeting adults. Keep the souls in purgatory and those souls who have no one to pray for them in your prayers. Ken
