Sixth Week in Ordinary Time
Receiving New Sight
Do you see anything?
Mark 8:23

I will never forget the first time I wore a pair of prescription glasses. I was in the second grade; my grandmother drove me home from the doctor, and the first thing that I noticed out the window was that I could see every leaf, every flower, every color clearly and with striking definition. I was amazed at what I had been missing.

One can hardly imagine what it was like for the blind man to be given his sight—to waken to a world of color, definition, beauty. We have an opportunity each day, in faith, to receive a new sight. There is much we miss, much we fail to be grateful for, much we turn a blind eye to in our lives. Jesus asks us each day, “Do you see anything?” If we are to receive new sight, we can respond in faith, as the blind man did.

O Lord, open my eyes today and give me new sight.

Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those in need. Come to the side of those experiencing violence in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, and the Sudan. Please hear the pleas of all those suffering around the world - and give them strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

My prayer "Lord Jesus, open my eyes to the revelation of your healing presence and saving word. Help me to walk in the truth and power of your love and to not stumble in the darkness of sin and unbelief. Use me to help others find your healing light and saving presence as well."

Love your prayer, Miguel ✝️ You share or give out what you receive ✝️ You can’t share or give out what you don’t have ✝️ And your prayer shows you are receiving!

Day by day, day by day, oh dear Lord, three things I pray. To see thee more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow thee more nearly, day by day . . .

Awaken each day being thankful to see the day anew! "You will never be happy if your happiness depends on getting what you want. Change the focus, get a new center, will what God wills, and your joy no man shall take from you." Bl. Fulton Sheen

Thank you Sarah for the reminder to have faith and trust because without that we cannot see. I struggle deeply with worry and when I worry I don't see what is right in front of me sometimes. When I am totally relaxed I can see and feel it all. Lord let me see your will. Blessings to all the LFF especially those with extra needs, Pope Francis, immigrants and all those affected by disasters. May the love f God be felt through all the world everyday.

What I learn this morning in the Gospel reading! *** Seeing clearly is a process and not a one time event in Mark 8:23b-25, “He (Jesus) spit on the man’s eyes and placed His hands on him. “Do you see anything?” Jesus asked. The man looked up. He said, “I see people. They look like trees walking around.” Once more Jesus put His hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened so that he could see again. He saw everything clearly!” *** Why did Jesus take the blind man outside the village to heal him and tell him not to go back after he was healed in Mark 8:23a, 26, “He took the blind man by the hand. Then He led him outside the village… Jesus sent him home. He told him, “Don’t even go into the village.” *** What do you think happen to the people who took the blind man to Jesus in Mark 8:22, “Jesus and His disciples came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to him. They begged Jesus to touch him!” ******* Physical eye sight is different than spiritual eye sight!!! We see with the eyes of our hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 1:17-18, “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people!” *** What I See by Chris Brown and Elevation Worship https://youtu.be/dNRaJzUhQ8s?si=bdwJP-FRoC0jXqQx

With spiritual eyes, prayers look very different than just asking for what I need but knowing God and pointing to God as Paul stated in Ephesians 1:17-18! With the power of the Holy Spirit, I receive wisdom and revelation! So what? So I may know God better! And? And the eyes of my heart may be enlightened! Ok? In order that I may know the hope to which Gods has called me, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people! *** Any prayer that does not know Who God is and point to the hope of God is not complete! *** Prayer is not about getting God to give me what I want. It is about learning to want what God wants to give! *** “Not my will, but Your will be done.” The key to answered prayer is praying according to the will of God and in accordance with His Word. So I have to know God’s will in His Word! Prayer is not seeking our own will but seeking to align ourselves with the will of God more fully (1 John 5:14–15; James 4:3). ******* Ultimate goal of any prayer is to know God and point them to the Lord Jesus Christ bringing eternal life in Jude 1:20-21, “But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love!”

Interesting Salina. I too found the fact the blind man in this passage wasn’t completely healed with Jesus’ first touch but had a partial healing with Jesus asking him “what do you see?” It was with the second touch the man saw clearly. Lots to contemplate there. Maybe I need to recognize that healing in every aspect of my life whether it be physical, emotional, spiritual, relationships, whatever, is a process and follows a response to Christ—-“what do you see?” I see I need Jesus’ continued touch in my life not just a one time experience. Praying for each of you today for what He wants you to see.

Beautiful devotion today, Sarah. It was a very emotional time when my son received a pair of glasses for color-blindness a couple birthdays ago. Prayers for those who look but cannot see.
