St. Paul Miki and Companions
No Worries, Know Jesus
[Jesus] instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick—no food, no sack, no money in their belts.
Mark 6:8

In the well-loved comic strip “Peanuts,” the character of Linus is rarely seen without his trusty security blanket. Just as Linus finds it difficult to move through life without his blanket, we, too, can sometimes find it challenging to let go of the physical and emotional securities that give us a sense of control and stability.

But Jesus asks us to do just that. The work of being disciples requires us to step away from and release our grip on our safety nets. Whether material possessions, financial security or even relationships, Jesus invites us to open ourselves to a deeper faith journey. He is asking us to trust him more than the security we have built up for ourselves. For on the road of discipleship, we are never on our own.

Jesus, be my comfort and security. Be all I need.

Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those in need. Come to the side of those experiencing violence in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, and the Sudan. Please hear the pleas of all those suffering around the world - and give them strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

So often when we go through a difficult time, we cry "Why, Lord, why me?". We should be giving thanks to God for always being there for us and getting us through these difficult times, whatever the outcome.

Steve thank you for you reflection. Sometimes it's so very hard to see God in our struggles. I fear that I am a wee bit like Linus. I have prayers that I say everyday without fail and don't have a good day without making sure I say them. Maybe I need to trust in God more and know that he knows my fears and he is here no matter what. My heart is hurting with the loss of many family and friends this week .Please pray for the soul of my Aunt Gert, and my bosses who were married , Sharon and Steve. They all got flu like symptoms and passed last Sunday and Tuesday. Blessings to all the LFF, especially those with extra needs these days. May well all spread the love of God through all the world everyday.

Linus did drop his safety blanket in the “A Charlie Brown Christmas Special!” *** He dropped his safety blanket when he recited the Scripture explaining Christmas in Luke 2:8-14 at the words of, “Fear not…” *** He did pick up his safety blanket right after his speech :-( *** https://youtu.be/rKqF9yUlOwg?feature=shared ******* Like Linus, we drop our safety blankets when we are talking about God and quoting Scripture and once that focus is gone, we pick up where we left off :-( *** P.S. “Charles Schulz had to fight to include a Bible passage in A Charlie Brown Christmas special … A Charlie Brown Christmas* includes a reading from the Gospel of Luke, which explains that Jesus is the Savior of the world. Schulz insisted on including this religious passage, even though others on the project pushed back … Schulz insisted, “If we don't do it, we don't do it at all.” He knew that the Luke reading by Linus was the heart and soul of the story!” *** Psalm 119:10-11, “I trust in You with all my heart. Don’t let me wander away from Your commands. I have hidden Your Word in my heart so that I won’t sin against You!” *** 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing!” ❤️✝️❤️

******* Talking about my beloved BSF students ages 7-11 years olds, I am so proud of them returning this past Wednesday answering my question from last week to them to conduct research on, “How do we know the Bible is true?” *** A 10 year old said, “The archaeological evidence confirms the story of Sodom and Gomorrah!” What I found, “Bab edh-Dhra, Wood said, was once Sodom; Numeira was Gomorrah. He said that archaeological evidence at both sites shows that the cities were destroyed by fire around 2,100 B.C., which would cohere with the biblical time of Sodom and Gomorrah’s destruction. Just as telling, geological evidence shows that there was an earthquake during the time, as well!” *** His 8 year old sister said, “The prophecies in the Bible have come true!” What I found, “As a budding physicist, I couldn’t resist calculating the probability that these prophecies could have been fulfilled by chance, or even by informed guesses. (Probabilities carry great significance in my research discipline.) Figuring very conservatively, I determined that the odds for chance, error-free fulfillment of these prophecies would be less than one in ten followed by a mind-boggling string of zeros, a number far greater than ~ 1 in 10 to the power of 1000. To visualize this tiny probability, just imagine winning the California lottery ten consecutive times with the purchase of just one ticket each time. That chance is about 1 in 10 to the power of 80. One chance in 10 to the power of 1000 is equivalent to the probability of winning the California lottery 125 consecutive times purchasing just one ticket each time, a probability that is practically indistinguishable from winning the California lottery 125 consecutive times without purchasing a single ticket!” *** I shared with the students this video: How do we know the Bible is true? https://youtu.be/CWsVX1evaMI?feature=shared

I knew about Schulz’s struggle with allowing the Bible reading into the production but I never picked up on Linus dropping his blanket and picking it up again! What a small detail that tells so much! That will make me think all day whether I use my “security items” when I am not focused solely on Christ and how often I let those items take the place of Jesus in everyday life. Thank you Steve and Salina for those guiding thoughts today.
