Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Word of God Sunday)
Do You Hear What I Hear?
…this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.
Luke 4:21

After reading that passage from Isaiah, Jesus announced something startling: He is the fulfillment of a prophecy. But he didn’t say, “I’m that guy in the reading.” Instead, he made a statement about his audience—his listeners, which includes every one of us. “This passage,” he said, “is fulfilled in your hearing.”

His point: It wasn’t fulfilled just because he read it; it happened, too, because people were there to hear it. With that, Jesus declared that those who hear his words help make the message matter.

A lot of people in the synagogue that day probably thought, “Okay. What happens now?”Maybe we need to ask ourselves the same question.

Having heard the Good News of a prophecy fulfilled—of liberty granted, of sight restored, of hope renewed—what will we do?

We can’t keep it to ourselves. How can we continue this day to carry forth Christ’s message and make it heard?

Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those who have been hurt, killed and impacted by terrorist attacks. Come to the side of those experiencing violence in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, and the Sudan. Please hear the pleas of all those suffering around the world - and give them strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen

How often, as married couples, do we need to pray for unity with each other and with our God to get through our daily trials? God is always waiting for us to turn to Him.

"Everything starts with prayer. Every good thing we do flows from prayer. Ask God to fill you with His love so you can take His love out into the world and share it with others." St. Teresa of Calcutta

Jessi's text just now, "Landed in Pucallpa headed to the boat! Pray for less humidity and unhungry mosquitoes!" My response, "Praying for y’all in *** Psalm 5:12, “Surely, Lord, You bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield!” and in *** Psalm 91:4, “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart!” Amen ✝️ *** I ask that God sends His Word for y’all to minister to each other and the locals, breezes to cool sending the mosquitoes away and smooth water for travel in Psalm 147:18, “He sends His Word and melts them; He stirs up His breezes, and the waters flow!” I pray in the powerful Name of Jesus and in agreement with the prompting of the Holy Spirit, Amen ✝️ ******* Jessi will be there until 2/2/25 and she will fly directly from Peru to Gunnison CO for a medical conference!!! She will go from 90 degree to 10 degree in her one packed bag :-) I think she will leave all her 5 sets of scrubs and may be the extra pair of shoes she has with the locals ✝️

Here were the people reactions after hearing Jesus reading the prophet Isaiah in Luke 4:18-21, “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me. He has anointed Me to announce the good news to poor people. He has sent Me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent Me so that the blind will see again. He wants Me to set free those who are treated badly. And He has sent Me to announce the year when He will set His people free.” (Isaiah 61:1,2) Then Jesus rolled up the scroll. He gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were staring at Him. He began by saying to them, “Today this passage of Scripture is coming true as you listen.” *** The people’s first reaction in Luke 4:22ab, “Everyone said good things about Him. They were amazed at the gracious words they heard from His lips.” *** Then the people started to question Jesus in Luke 4:22c, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. *** Then Jesus told the people the what was going to happen in Luke 4:24, “What I’m about to tell you is true,” He continued. “A prophet is not accepted in his hometown. And there were many in Israel who had skin diseases in the days of Elisha the prophet. But not one of them was healed except Naaman the Syrian.” *** After hearing more from Jesus how He would minister to the Gentiles instead of the Jews, they were mad and rejected Jesus in Luke 4:28-29, “All the people in the synagogue were very angry when they heard that. They got up and ran Jesus out of town. They took Him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They planned to throw him off the cliff.” ******* What about you? If you hear or read in God’s Word that you don’t like, will you reject it? Or will you justify or ignore God’s Word, “That was in Old Testament, it doesn’t apply any more because Jesus came and it is all about love!” So listen very carefully!!! *** Isaiah 5:20-21, “How terrible it will be for those who say that what is evil is good! How terrible for those who say that what is good is evil! How terrible for those who say that darkness is light and light is darkness! How terrible for those who say that what is bitter is sweet and what is sweet is bitter! How terrible it will be for those who think they are wise! How terrible for those who think they are really clever!” *** Proverbs 17:15, “The Lord hates two things. He hates it when the guilty are set free. He also hates it when those who aren’t guilty are punished!” *** 2 Timothy 3:1-5, “Here is what I want you to know. There will be terrible times in the last days. People will love themselves. They will love money. They will brag and be proud. They will tear others down. They will not obey their parents. They won’t be thankful or holy. They won’t love others. They won’t forgive others. They will tell lies about people. They will be out of control. They will be wild. They will hate what is good. They will turn against their friends. They will act without thinking. They will think they are better than others. They will love what pleases them instead of loving God. They will act as if they were serving God. But what they do will show that they have turned their backs on God’s power. Have nothing to do with these people!”

To the LF Family, an update on Joanne. After a myriad of tests, she was released yesterday and went home. Dr. will determine what's next. Possibly a breathing machine of some kind for sleeping. Thank you for all the prayers. Bill
