Jesus’ question to the blind Bartimaeus has, perhaps, one of the most obvious answers in all of Holy Scripture. What does he want? He wants to see, of course! What else would a blind man want?
But the stories of Jesus always have a point beyond the obvious. The point of this one seems to be: Do we know what we really want?
Faced with the same question, how would we answer the Son of God? Like characters in a fairy tale given a wish, or three, from a genie, would we waste our moment on a heap of treasure or a request for more wishes? Or would we fix our unseeing eyes on the voice of the One asking the question and give the only response that brings life: I want to see you, Lord.
Keeping Mary Victoria and Sal in my prayers. Blessings to the LFF and I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful Sunday in Fall.
you for all your contributions to this site. That question come up many times last week the disciples wanted to sit on the left and right, and Martha and Mary wanted their brother back. What do we want?? Living faith family not sure if I asked for prayers for Sal he had heart attack weeks ago. Good news he was at Mass and he had a Stent put in and open heart scheduled for later in November. Keep him in your prayers. 6 foot tall guy came up to me after Mass this morning said he's being confirmed next week. Wiw had him and his siblings in 2nd grade class time flies. Ken
"Lord Jesus, may I never fail to recognize my need for your grace and mercy. Strengthen my faith and trust in you that I may seek your presence daily and listen to your word with a readiness to follow you who are my All." Amen
Amen!
You can he a Christian and going to church all your life, doing all the right things (the Pharisees did) and yet not seeing Lord Jesus personally!?!?!? You know about Jesus, but you don’t know Him personally!?!?!? You hear what others say about Jesus, but you never had a personal connection with Him?!?!?! *** Listen to what Job (Job 1:1, “There was a man who lived in the land of Uz. His name was Job. He was honest. He did what was right. He had respect for God and avoided evil.”) said about seeing God at the end of the book of Job in 42:5-6, “My ears had heard about You. But now my own eyes have seen You. So I hate myself. I’m really sorry for what I said about You. That’s why I’m sitting in dust and ashes.” *** Listen to the major prophet Isaiah (who spoke for God for years) said about seeing God in Isaiah 6:1, “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord. He was seated on His throne. His long robe filled the temple. He was highly honored!” *** How about you? When did you really see (know Him on a personal level) Jesus? I have seen Him when I lost my family and everything and was alone by myself 24 years ago!!! ******* John 17:3, “And what is eternal life? It is knowing You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom You have sent!” John 14:6, “Jesus answered, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me!” Ephesians 2:8-10, “God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your Salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift. It is not based on anything you have done. No one can brag about earning it. We are God’s creation. He created us to belong to Christ Jesus. Now we can do good works. Long ago God prepared these works for us to do!” Amen ♥️✝️♥️
Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those experiencing natural disasters, as well as those in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, the Sudan, in addition to all those suffering around the world - also for their strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.
