I hear it whenever my wife sends me to the grocery store. “Remember,” she calls out to me, “get the milk and bread from the back!” It’s a reminder for her forgetful husband that, like so many things in life, groceries have expiration dates. Reach into the back of the shelf, check the dates tagged on the containers and get the stuff that will last longest.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers us a similar lesson. His listeners must have been amazed to hear him offering bread that wouldn’t go bad, “the true bread from heaven.”
The Son of God could feed them in ways they never imagined. And he continues to do that for us today with “food that endures for eternal life.”
We are reminded of it at every Eucharist when Jesus offers us the immeasurable gift of himself.
With Christ, we don’t have to look for a stamp or a tag. What he gives has no expiration date.
Amen. :)
Thank you Lord Jesus for giving Yourself to us all day and every day as we continue to reveal the new self we are hoping will emerge each time you enter our hearts. May the peace and love of Christ be with all of you dear LFF and those you love.
*** Yes, Jesus is the food that lasts forever in John 6:27, “Do not work for food that spoils. Work for food that lasts forever. That is the food the Son of Man will give you. For God the Father has put His seal of approval on Him.” *** What does that mean!? Jesus gives us a practical example in quoting Scripture in Matthew 4:4, “Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man must not live only on bread. He must also live on every Word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” (Deuteronomy 8:3)” *** You know why? Because Jesus is the Word in John 1:1-2, 14, “In the beginning, the Word was already there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning…The Word became a human being. He made His home with us. We have seen His glory. It is the glory of the One and Only, Who came from the Father. And the Word was full of grace and truth!” ******* What are taking in everyday? The health, the sickness, the finance, the relationships, the job, the peace, the war, the climate, the election, etc??? Think 100 years from now…none of the above will matter and all will eventually perish except the Word of God, Jesus Himself ♥️✝️♥️
Dear LFF, asking for prayers for my sister and her husband. He had prostate cancer, went through the treatment last year and is again having problems and needs all kinds of testing done. Yesterday their dog passed away, and tomorrow is her birthday. Please pray for them.
Thank you Deacon Greg. What a wonderful way to think of Jesus as food for our soul. Always available and always fresh. Amen to that. Wishing all a happy Sunday and continuing to pray for the comfort of those families impacted by violence. Amen.
Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those experiencing natural disasters, and those in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, the Sudan, in addition to all those suffering around the world - also for their strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.
Thank you Deacon Greg- powerful incite! Ken, would you please let me know where you get Padre Pio’ daily words? I enjoy his thoughts and prayers!
Greg love this analogy. What a comfort to know that he is there at all times. Blessings to all the LFF and especially those needing an extra hand these days. May we all go out and spread the love of God through all the world for all time.
Amen:)
Amen
