11th Week in Ordinary Time
Instructions From the Lord
This is how you are to pray.
Matthew 6:9

Being corrected can be an occasion of gratitude—or resentment, right? If we’re frustrated, and we just can’t figure out a problem with our car or something we’re trying to cook, we welcome correction. We might even seek it. But when we think we’re doing great and on the right path, and we’re told we’re maybe not? What’s our response then?

I confess that every time I read or hear Jesus’ words on prayer here, I feel a little seen, and not because I’m being affirmed. For what follows—the Lord’s Prayer—is more than words that we have memorized.

They’re instructions from the Lord himself on the attitudes to bring to prayer: Put praise of God first. Then pray in acceptance of his will. Ask for what you need today. Acknowledge sin, and ask forgiveness. Forgive others as God has forgiven you. You’ll share this gift of forgiveness as you seek, above all, to be part of God’s will for his Kingdom. Get that? Put praise and gratitude first. Not me and my complaints. Imagine that.

Our Father….

I enjoy and feel empowered by communal prayer. Saying The Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed, and even the Rosary among a community of believers is powerful. My current circumstances however restrict me from actual communal prayer, as I’m sitting at my laptop adding my voice to an online service. I have found saying these prayers in the solitude of my hotel room and at my pace has been especially meaningful. Sometimes I’ll say a phrase then pause and meditate on its meaning in my life. I find that all too often we rush through the memorized instructions from God.

Praise: "The most deadly poison of our times is indifferece. And this happens, although the praise of God should know no limits. Let us strive, therefore, to praise Him to the greatest extent of our powers." St. Maximilian Kolbe

Beautiful quote by St Maximilian Kolbe, Irene . Thank you for sharing this highly important information. I have a special love for St Maximilian Kolbe as he gave his life to save a Jewish man who was a husband and father so that man could live for his family. No indifference there at all. Also, the Polish family who hid the Jews in their home and didn’t turn them away because they were Jews. This was less than 85 years ago. Praise be Jesus Christ.

*** Thank you for all your prayers for Jessi, written and unspoken :-) *** She finished her 9 hour exam!!! She is exhausted and nervous telling us that 25% of the questions that won't be counted are actually new test questions for future exams!!! So they paid $660 for the exam being the guinea pig (market test) for future questions...Hmmm! *** I just want to thank God for getting her through the exam with your prayers! Praise Him for His continued faithfulness in her life and in 2 Thessalonians 3:3-5, "But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one (implying you didn't do well). And we are confident in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we (directed and powered by the Holy Spirit) commanded you. May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ!" Amen!!!

Amy your words are well put. If our heart believes in God then the rest will follow. I know it's easier said than done but if we don't try it won't happen. Bruce K I like your wife's thought process of the other drivers. When I can I say a pray for those people to keep them safe for apparently they are in a hurry and life is hard for them right now. Jane thank you for asking about Journey. She and I are doing great! We had some medical issues to work out but I know God sent her to me for a reason. From the first time I met her (I was the first person she didn't bark at and she walked right up to me and sat next to me) to now, we are two peas in a pod :) She feels like she has to be my protector so we are working on that but she sticks right by me no matter where we go. She's my Godwink! Blessings to all the LFF especially those needing an extra hand these days, Cass, Susan, Karen and I hope all is going ok at work for you Jane. Please remember everyone, YOU ARE ALL SPECIAL IN YOUR OWN WAY AND HAVE SO MUCH GOOD TO GIVE THIS WORLD.

Hi Stormy, I’m so happy to hear all the good news about you and Journey! I remember that you mentioned that she had some medical issues and I was hesitant to ask you because I didn’t want to make you sad in case things weren’t going so well. Anyway, enjoy your new family member and know that we’re all so happy for you!

Amy is always so relatable! Good one, thank you.

Amy, just beautiful today. Thank you for reducing our prayer directive to some very simple yet elegant priorities. Ah yes, how frequently I skip the other ones to get my complaints and unloading. Thanks for the reminder. Blessings to our community today. How is Stormy and Journey? Continued healing to Cass, Susan and Karen. Amen.

Good afternoon Jane, thank you for your dedication in posting the prayer for world peace every day. It’s so necessary, for sure. In regards to your post about Ashes on our foreheads , I too have wondered what people think about it. I agree with what Bill S said about it. Our Lord know what’s in our hearts and really, that’s all that matters. Hope things are going well at the office these days.

Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those experiencing natural disasters, Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, the Sudan, and all those suffering around the world - also for their strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

On our trip there were many opportunities to seek Our Father’s instructions, such as: we reached the final stoplight on our trip home. As the light was turning red, drivers in the next two lanes zoomed through it. I turned to my wife: she gave me the “they’re probably taking someone to the hospital” look. But they’re going in the wrong direction! By this time the dangling crucifix seemed a lot worse for wear. It hung in there though.
