St. Matthias
Comfort Zone
…the lot fell upon Matthias…
Acts 1:26

We all have a comfort zone—a safe and undisturbed state of mind. We know what to expect. And that’s reassuring. It’s a refuge, a place where we don’t have to push ourselves. But every now and then, God coaxes us to step out of self-imposed limitations. “No thanks,” we say, “we’re fine just where we are.” Or so we think.

Today is the feast day of St. Matthias. We don’t know too much about his life, but we do know he was named the twelfth Apostle after the Resurrection. When he was chosen, did he perhaps want to say thanks, but no thanks? We don’t know. But we do know he embraced the unknown despite whatever doubts he may have had. He trusted in God, and the rest is history.

How are you being asked to step out of your comfort zone? You never know what blessings may await your “Yes, thank you, Lord.”

Lord please hear our prayers and bring your light to all those experiencing natural disasters, Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur, the Sudan, and all those suffering around the world - also for their strength, courage and resilience to continue walking in faith. Send them your light. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Haiti, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Darfur and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

I am afraid of change. Need the Lords help everyday. I won’t step out of my comfort zone. Cannot keep my mind on prayer lately to much on my mind. Need to focus better, sorry Lord.

AD, just keep showing up! Let God do the rest. p.s. I’m not sure anyone loves change, but we adapt.

Who was Matthias? *** Scripture tells us he was always there with the other 12 disciples from the beginning in Acts 1:21-22, “So we need to choose someone to take his place. It will have to be a man who was with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us. That time began when John was baptizing. It ended when Jesus was taken up from us. The one we choose must join us in telling people that Jesus rose from the dead.” *** Nothing was mentioned about Matthias before or after this election! *** We know there were more than the 12 disciples in Luke 10:1, “After this the Lord appointed 72 others. He sent them out two by two ahead of Him. They went to every town and place where He was about to go!” ******* Are you a “Matthias?” Matthias heard these Words from Jesus in John 15:15-17, “I do not call you slaves anymore. Slaves do not know their master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends. I have told you everything I learned from My Father. You did not choose Me. Instead, I chose you. I appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit that will last. I also appointed you so that the Father will give you what you ask for. He will give you whatever you ask for in My Name. Here is My command. Love one another!” Amen ✝️

Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with your love. Set our lives aflame with your gifts. Grant us: wisdom to choose what is good and true; understanding to embrace your plan of salvation; right judgment to act according to your will; courage to share our faith with others; knowledge to live as disciples of Jesus Christ; reverence to respond faithfully to your grace each day; and wonder and awe in your presence. Inspire us with enthusiasm for our Catholic faith. Grant us boldness to proclaim the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ, and help us to bring the transforming power of the gospel to our world. We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord. AMEN. ...OUR FATHER, HAIL MARY, GLORY BE... Tuesday, May 14, 2024 – Life through the Holy Spirit... If the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, God who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through the Spirit that dwells in you. Romans 8: 11
