There is a striking depiction of the Blessed Mother in the movie, “The Passion of the Christ,” that always brings me to tears. As Jesus carries his Cross through the busy streets of Jerusalem, his mother is desperately trying to find him. Mary finally encounters Jesus as he violently stumbles and fall. In a flashback, she remembers running to console a toddler Jesus after a big fall. This time, however, all Mother Mary can offer her beloved Son is her presence—and her own suffering.
When today’s feast was officially placed in the Roman Missal in 1482, it was under the title Our Lady of Compassion—a word derived from the Latin cum and patior, meaning to suffer with. It is no coincidence, then, that the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows immediately follows the Exaltation of the Holy Cross! Our Lady knows our sorrows and our agony because like us, she, too, suffered.
Today's readings contained the 'Stabat Mater' (the sorrowful Mother). Brings me back to Catholic school choir when we had to sing this. Prayers for all in need today. ***getting real tired of taking all these tests in order to post!! Right, Ken?
Lord God bless you and mother Mary ????????????
Jane, love your last line, "Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen". Be Blessed!
AMEN!
Amen.
PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP Our lady of Perpetual Help, you have been blessed and favored by God. You became not only the Mother of the Redeemer but the Mother of the redeemed as well. We come to you today as your loving children. Watch over us and take care of us. As you held the child Jesus in your loving arms, so take us in your arms. Be a mother ready at every moment to help us. For God who is mighty has done great things for you and His mercy is from age to age on those who love him. Our greatest fear is that in the time of temptation we fail to call out to you and become lost children. Intercede for us, dear Mother in obtaining pardon for our sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, and the grace always to call upon you, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Amen. This is one of my daily prayers. Thought this would be a good day to share it with everyone. Prayers and good outcome to Barb. May God hold her in his hands in this long journey. Prayers to all the LFF especially those with special needs ditto to the ones listed in Jane's comment and those that have not been able to request help. May we all be guided by God to spread his love to others today and everyday!
Amen.
Thank you all for your prayers for my sister as she underwent her first chemo treatment yesterday. Other than being a little tired, she had no side effects during the full day treatment, so she was able to work while having chemo. Bill, thank you for the prayer to St. Peregrine. There were 3 of us who prayed the St. Peregrine novena prior to Barb's treatment starting. God Bless you all!
Today’s title, “Full of grace” prompts me to think! What is grace? *** Grace is a gift in Ephesians 4:7, “But each one of us has received a gift of grace. These gifts are given to us by Christ.” *** Grace saves me in Ephesians 2:8, “God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift.” *** Grace is greater than my sin in Romans 5:20, “The law was given so that sin would increase. But where sin increased, God’s grace increased even more.” ******* Grace is God’s unmerited favor, His gift to save me from my sins! I don’t deserve it and I’m not worthy of it! Grace is the essence of the Gospel (Good News) in Acts 20:24, “But my life means nothing to me. My only goal is to finish the race. I want to complete the work the Lord Jesus has given me. He wants me to tell others about the good news of God’s grace.” Amen!
Yes, Maria - Our Lady of Compassion, please pray for all of us today, especially Barb who is undergoing treatment for her lymphoma. Sending light to all those in Libya and Morocco, may they rescue those who are stranded and console those remain. Continued prayers for the Ukraine, those suffering in Russia and the Sudan, and also for the strength, courage and resilience of our brothers and sisters all over the world who are suffering after natural disasters. Father in Heaven, have mercy on us and on the whole world! You sent Your Son, the Prince of Peace, for the salvation of the world. We pray that the Peace of Christ will reign in Ukraine, Russia and Sudan. Please protect and send aid to those in need and all who are at-risk. We pray for peace and rebuilding– we who are working towards it and for all those who are suffering or in danger from conflicts. We pray for an end to violence and war – we pray for wisdom for all leaders who have a hand in this. Lord God please help those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.
Our Lady of Compassion, pray for us!
