The Exaltation of the Holy Cross
A Reverential Silence
…so must the Son of Man be lifted up…
John 3:14

It is perhaps the most difficult challenge of our faith lives. Why does God allow such horrible suffering in the world? Some of it is so horrible that we are at a loss for words.

All of us who are ministers of the Gospel should refrain from offering glib answers. Empty words do not honor the searing pain of a parent who has lost a child, a young child who has watched a parent die an agonizing death of cancer or a crucified world devastated by a pandemic. These sacred moments demand a reverential silence.

This, too, must be our bearing as we kneel before the crucified One. We sit in silence and honor the infinite agony of a God made flesh. Our mouths are closed, our hearts are rent in two, and our tears water the earth.

All of creation is silent as the Cross is lifted up and towers over our crucified world.

This is an example of foreshadowing (there are many other in the BIble :-) in John 3:14-15, "And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life." *** Moses lifted up the serpent and people were healed in Number 21:9b, "whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he lived." *** Jesus was lifted up on the cross, so you and I are healed when we believe in Romans 10:9-10, "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (the cross), you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." *** However, there is the danger of ANY symbol we think heals becoming an idol as in the case of the bronze serpent in 2 Kings 18:4, "He (king Hezekiah) removed the pagan shrines, smashed the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke up the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because the people of Israel had been offering sacrifices to it. The bronze serpent was called Nehushtan." Even the symbol of the cross can become an idol if we worship and offer sacrifices to it :-( I remember thinking the wooden cross I held onto during my divorce will save me and my marriage! I did not know the living God personally and held onto the man-made symbol :-( ******* This will be the day I look forward to in Philippins 2:9-11, "Because of this (Jesus sacrifice on the cross for sinners), God greatly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the Name that is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Yes, Lord Jesus! Amen!

Thank You God for another day to worship You in Your Glorious Sovereignty. There is no other gods; for, all others are “pretenders” of the faith and we rebuke them from our lives and families. We pray for the “pretenders” to take their thoughts off their selves and turn to You, Most Holy One of Israel, for their salvation, redemption, and deliverance. We believe that a better Earth is here now through Christ Jesus for His children, whom He is attentively working all things for our good and we believe this now and always. We will not grow weary doing good because God is always in control and He is our supreme hope and comforter. We will praise-it-out-of- ourselves-and-others where we either get-up-and-walk-out-healed; or, we-get-up-and-fly-out-healed. Either way you choose, Father God, I will swallow. Your Word states that by Jesus’ stripes we are healed and we dwell on Your Truth, unwavering. For it is impossible for God to lie and we refuse to twist God into something that He is NOT. Have mercy on our sins God and please rebuke the lies of the rebellious ones and put us NOT to testing. Lead us to healthy eating, exercising, taking safe supplements, driving safely, being cautious to prevent danger, so that we can live- out our appointed years for Your Holy purpose and plans, to come to fruition. We establish Your Kingdom on this Earth with Your Power God, not of ourselves. And we give all glory to You Father, and Your Son Jesus, and Your powerful Holy Spirit for the good works that are transpiring now. For without You, we would exhaust ourselves endlessly. We rest in You, Christ Jesus, Amen

A bit of trivia for you all, have you ever noticed that the symbol for the medical profession is 1 or 2 snakes wrapped around a pole? Healing prayers to all in need today.

Living faith family heard a homily about asking children how much they loved you. My wife and bestfriend Kathy would ask each of the 4 children. They all responded when they were 2or 3 by stretching out both arm. Pastor tied this to the crucifix and Jesus love for us. And today's feast day. I am praying for you guys right now and I will requests for you to pray for the souls in purgatory and those who have no one to pray for them. Missing Tim and Patrick, Pam keep searching and maybe another zoom meeting. Ken

Amen. Thank you Holy Father, for this beautiful day and for this Gospel today. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for my faith, my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father, most of all, for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconciliation. Please Lord Jesus Christ have mercy. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen Holly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we ask that you release your warrior angels and heavenly hosts. We decry and declare that they would take us off the enemies' radar and scrambler the enemies frequencies (airwaves). Your Kingdom must come now. Your will must be done right now, as in the heavens, also on earth. Amen Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts - by the power of God - Cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

So true, Michael. Our daily crosses, lifted up to God, help to redeem our suffering. We do not worship the cross, but we use the crucifix as a reminder that we, too, must suffer in this Earthly world. It is a mystery that we accept by our faith. The cross is a symbol that represents the great sacrifice of Jesus so that the gates of Heaven are now open to all those who love the Lord. Offering up our suffering to God shows that we love Him and will follow him in good times and bad.

The cross is a tool, but not to be worshipped. The brazen snake helped Israel, however, it had to be destroyed on account of the people were then worshipping it. I hope we do not fall into that trap. We worship Jesus, not the cross.
