Prayers for the Journey
We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers...knowing, brothers and sisters loved by God, how you were chosen.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-4
As you read this, my second-to-youngest child will be starting college. He'll be far away from me, and believe me, I'm probably praying. Right now. It's not that I'm new at this. He's the fourth one I've sent off, with one more to go in a few years. Each of them have taken very different journeys, journeys that have taught me quite a bit as I've supported, listened and watched. Most fundamentally, I've learned that the journeys are theirs. These human beings are not my possessions. Like Paul writing to the Christians in Thessalonica, I know that these young people are loved by God for who they are. I know that they have been chosen by him. And like Paul, the best thing I can do for them--even if sometimes from a distance--is also the only thing I can do, which is pray.
Loving God, I thank you for all the people in my life. Open them to your guidance on their journeys.

Hello Amy,
Every time I read a few lines of your comments I seem to know you have written it. When I look at the name it's you at least 85-90% of he time. It's the way you write and how you mention your family. I have been using my Living Faith since 1995 so I have always enjoyed reading what you gave to say. It's so easy to relate to. Thank you

Thank you Amy for your devotion.

I didn't have any children to send off to college, but today's devotion and responses remind me of when my mother and dad were living and I was the one that left home. Today's reflections make me realize how hard it was for my mom and dad to see me leave home. All the time that I was away from home both of my parents were there for me with their love, but my mom was always there with her advice, support, guidance, encouragement, but most of all reminding me and guiding me towards God. She would always remind me to go to church, have faith, pray and love God.

And here I am, strong in faith, following and loving God....

Thank you God for the parents you gave me here on earth through my youth to give me support and guide me through my youthful journey.

God Bless our Living Faith Family and continued prayers for all.

Living Faith Family....big and many prayers please for my dear friend’s daughter, Stephanie.
At 1:00 pm she will be having a C-section to deliver TRIPLETS!
Had hoped to go another week or two but Steph’s high blood pressure and another issue will bring them into this world a tad sooner.
God Bless us all, and all who we love!
Thank you.

Thank you for the beautiful reflection, Amy. We just sent our first grandchild off to college. It has been a time of reflection and joy. We have another who is a senior in high school and a 3rd in 8th grade, so we are celebrating those firsts and lasts. I'm filled with gratitude that they live close by. Thank you for the reminder to pray them through all of this.

It’s been some years now since my oldest completed college and there was a major story for each year of it. So while many others are reflecting on Amy’s words about college students I feel her words that children are not possessions. I grew up as a possession and oddly in my waking time in bed this morning some memories of being treated like an owned object were in my mind. God wiggles a spoken word and wink to me every once in a while to let me know he’s “feelin’ me”. I am so grateful to Living Faith for providing these daily meditations at no cost and for giving us a platform to support each other. Gayle...good for you for picking up the torch! I am doing my best to do the same. May the Lord bless each of you and your family members whether preschoolers, college students or beyond.

Yes, both of my girls are starting their first day of school in college today! They are both graduating this school year! And they are not twins :-)

Indeed, prayers are my only effective anything and everything :-) Only if I can let go and let God as I say I would...on every situations!!!

My prayers over the years have changed
* from, "Protect them Lord and help them make good decisions and good grades..."
* to, "Lord, help me to trust You completely in drawing my girls to Yourself because they are Yours to begin with and You love them more than I can ever be. Keep me out of Your way in equipping my girls to know You and to serve You and no one else!"
* Nothing else matters, right? Not a degree, not a career, not a spouse will take the place of our God and our Lord for my girls :-) That's my prayer! When they have the God and the Lord of all creation, everything they need will be given upto them! I have no doubt :-)

My girls may not be walking the faith walk the way I see faith walk should be, but I know the God and the Lord Who is walking with them. He will never leave them or forsake them and that is enough for me :-)

* The peace I receive is a person, "For He Himself is our peace," (Ephesians 2:14a)
* Peace out of this world, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27)
* Peace isn't the absence of troubles, but the presence of my Peace-Maker, Lord Jesus Himself :-)

I sing to the LORD a new song of praise in the assembly of the faithful. Let me be glad in my Maker, let me rejoice in my King. Let me praise Your Name, let me sing praise to You. For the LORD loves me, and You adorn the lowly with victory. Let the faithful exult in glory; let me sing for joy upon my couch; Let the high praises of God be in my throat. This is the glory of all His faithful. Alleluia! Amen! (Psalm 149)

My family had one aunt on mothers side and one on father's side who prayed for everyone. When these aunts died I realised we had no one to pray for us. Oh! It is my job. So now I take that responsibility. I see mistakes, I encourage, I see growth. Thank you Lord. Please hear my prayers for all.

Good Morning Living Faith Family, all of you are incredible and I appreciate your thoughts and comments. I have know how special our family is to me.

Yes, we cannot control our adult children lives who have left our nest, they will spread their wings, experience and make some mistakes. I know I cannot protect them, just offer my unconditional support and hope their mistakes are small.

I continuously remind them that their God is there for them during their journey and the secret of life is to put him first.

Praying for our Living Faith Family today and everyday.

Just sent my youngest child a text to wish her good luck on her first day of classes at the university. Then I went to read today’s reflection...wonderful.

Heavenly Father,
Guide all of our children, living away from home, in your ways. I believe that I have done the best I can as a parent to prepare them for success. May they always feel that they can turn to You in both good and bad times. Help me be supportive of their decisions, knowing they are becoming their own individual selves.
