Preserving Commandments
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.
John 15:10
There's a most interesting museum in Kansas City, Missouri, centered around the goods excavated from a steamboat that sank in the Missouri River in 1856. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the entire cargo was a loss until the wreck was located (in a farm field because of the shifting river) in the 1980s. Much of it is on display now--everything from doorknobs to shoes to preserved pickles. It's fascinating, as is the story of the retrieval, which had to be carefully done so the objects didn't start degrading once they hit the air. The basic idea was to maintain continuity in the environment as much as possible. So it is for my connection with Jesus. Wherever life takes me, my interior environment can remain steady as my daily choices, no matter how small, keep me rooted in him and the life he gives.
Jesus, help me keep your commandments today.

I love what Jesus tells me the results of keeping His commandments in John 15:10b, 11, “
* you will remain in My love,
* My joy might be in you and
* your joy might be complete.”

Have you ever equate keeping commandments to love and joy? I am now :-)

Keeping the commandments shouldn’t be like carrying a yoke on my shoulders! And sometimes I do make keeping the commandments like a yoke on my shoulders :-( What yoke is Paul referring to in todays reading of Acts 15? Here it is in Acts 15:1, “Some who had come down from Judea were instructing the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the Mosaic practice, you cannot be saved.”

So they believed and insisted that the Gentiles had to become Jews first by circumcision before they can be saved! Here is what Paul said in Acts 15:11, “On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they!”

Yes, Lord Jesus! Salvation comes from no one else but You alone, not circumcision but circumcision of my heart :-) Bless me, my Lord and my King, with love and joy in keeping Your commandments! Amen!

I hav3e many times wondered why things have not gone as I envisioned it should. Later, when I look back, I find that the Lord used me in some way to help another. Sometimes it is obvious, and other times not so much. I do pray for the Lords healing upon your whole family. Keep an eye out for those opportunities to share God's love.
