If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.
There's a most interesting museum in Kansas City, Missouri, centered around the goods excavated from a steamboat that sank in the Missouri River in 1856. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the entire cargo was a loss until the wreck was located (in a farm field because of the shifting river) in the 1980s.
Much of it is on display now--everything from doorknobs to shoes to preserved pickles. It's fascinating, as is the story of the retrieval, which had to be carefully done so the objects didn't start degrading once they hit the air. The basic idea was to maintain continuity in the environment as much as possible.
So it is for my connection with Jesus. Wherever life takes me, my interior environment can remain steady as my daily choices, no matter how small, keep me rooted in him and the life he gives.
Jesus, help me keep your commandments today.
