St. Fabian, St. Sebastian
Unchanging and Sure
Holy and awesome is his name...
His praise endures forever.
Psalm 111:9-10
Do you remember a moment in time when you were convinced you were the height of fashion? What was it for you? Your bell-bottoms? Leather vest? Fringed bangs? Platform shoes? Miniskirt? Maxidress? Huge glasses? Super narrow glasses? A peasant blouse in your Dorothy Hamill haircut? Who, me? Yes, we thought we were smashing, but now we look at the photographs and laugh, cringe and cry a little, don't we? We wonder how we could ever have thought that was cool. Those cringeworthy images teach me. I must certainly live in the present and love and treasure it. At the same time, the fact that yesterday's certainty seems so very wrong today gives me pause. That embarrassing photograph prompts me to seek, with all the more vigor, the One whose holiness, truth and love endures forever, unchanging and sure.
God, you are my rock.

Amy, to say that yesterday's certainty seems so very wrong is such a profound statement. Somehow certainty seems foolhardy, and the things of which we are the most certain are perhaps the ones for which we are the most mistaken. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. May God indeed be our rock!

But the great thing is that God loves us whatever size, shape or fashion we present just as much now as He did then. Thanks for the post though it brought back some wry smiles!

You were in the height of fashion, Amy, like we all tried to be then (remember the teased hair and white lipstick?!) but those are fleeting feelings. God's love and praise-worthiness are forever.
