Friday within the Octave of Easter
In His Presence
When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea.
After the Resurrection, Jesus appeared at the Sea of Tiberias in the miracle of a catch of fish so great the disciples could not haul it into the boat. Although they were close to shore, Peter could not wait to be in the presence of Jesus and so leapt half-dressed over the side and swam to him.
I hardly ever get to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. I'm busy or, like the disciples, tired from a grueling or disappointing day. I forget that Jesus is waiting patiently for me in the Eucharist, his presence every bit as immediate as it was to Peter. I don't have to jump into the cold sea and swim--all I have to do is remember to make a little time and space in my life to be with him.
