How do I renew my subscription?
In order to cut down on unwanted mailings, we provide only one renewal notice. The renewal notice comes on an overcover to the final issue of your subscription. Fill out that form right away and send it with your check or money order to be assured of getting your next issue on time. Or use our website with a credit card for faster confirmation of your order.
What version of the Bible does Living Faith use?
All chapter and verse citations are from the New American Bible (NAB). The texts quoted are also from the NAB, but more than one edition of the NAB is currently in circulation. That tends to create some confusion. Living Faith uses the NAB’s 1970 Old Testament translation, including the Psalms, and the 1986 New Testament translation. This is generally the same text as used in the Mass lectionary, but there are some exceptions.
Why can’t I find a Bible chapter or verse cited in Living Faith?
Most likely it’s because you are using some edition of the Bible other than the New American Bible (NAB). All citations used in Living Faith are from the NAB. The NAB is a Catholic Bible that includes 7 more Old Testament books than the Protestant Bible (Baruch, Sirach, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Tobit and Wisdom), as well as some additional passages in other biblical books that aren’t in Protestant editions. Variations also exist in the numbering of some of the verses, particularly in the Psalms and the Book of Daniel.
Why doesn’t Living Faith list a saint for every date?
Living Faith lists solemnities, feast days and some saints according to the observance of the Church Year (including some lesser-known saints whose days are rated “optional” in the liturgical calendar). Naming a saint for every date would leave the impression that the day’s reflection is intended to be primarily about a saint. That is not the case. Rather, the themes and insights for our daily reflection are keyed to a lectionary Scripture quote selected by the writers.
What does the Imprimatur on page 1 of Living Faith mean?
“Imprimatur” is Latin for “let it be printed.” When conferred through the bishop of a diocese, it means that the publication is free of any doctrinal or moral error. Living Faith seeks an imprimatur in order to be in harmony with the teaching of the Catholic Church.
When will my quarterly issue of Living Faith arrive?
You should allow 6-8 weeks for your initial subscription issue to arrive. Thereafter, you can expect your quarterly issues to arrive at least two weeks prior to the cover date (January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1, respectively). Contact us—preferably by email—as soon as you are convinced your next quarterly issue is late or missing. Please include your name, address and, if possible, subscription number.
Where can I find my subscription number?
Your subscription number is an 8-digit number on the top right hand side of your address label on the Living Faith cover wrap.
How can I be a contributor to Living Faith?
We are always interested in looking at the work of good writers who might be able to contribute to Living Faith, but this kind of writing is demanding.
Short in length, Living Faith devotions must be economical yet meaningful. If after studying the publication you would like to try writing for Living Faith, send us a sample devotion or two. E-mail is fine, but if you send them by standard mail and would like your samples returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Please also include any biographical information which you believe makes you especially suited to be a Living Faith writer. If after receiving your samples we offer you an assignment, you will be notified regarding dates, Scripture passages, deadlines and payment. Due to the many submissions we examine, we do not make specific comments on individual samples.
Does Living Faith have a list of writers’ guidelines or themes?
The devotions used in Living Faith are the best indication of what we are looking for in a Living Faith devotion. In general, we are looking for a personal response to Scripture that can be effectively shared by one faithful follower of Jesus to another. We do not set themes or topics for our writers, but simply ask that they respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as they read and pray with the Mass readings of a particular day.
