DAILY DEVOTIONS:

'Light in the Darkness'

Late Advent Weekday

In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

- Luke 1:78-79

My adult daughter is engaged in work that involves helping others in difficult situations. She told me one day that the help she was trying to offer in one situation was deeply informed by things I had talked to her about over the years, which, in turn, had been informed by my own difficulties and the ways that others had helped me. All of which was informed, ultimately, by the promise and hope of finding light in the darkness through Christ.

I was struck, once again, how our lives impact others in ways that we can never predict and might never even be aware of. Embracing the Child of Light and carrying him with us wherever we go in this messy world--who knows what shadows we can help lift?

Jesus, you are Lord of love and light!

Thank you Amy. How you all have impacted my life. I’m home bound and can’t even get to church any more (no way to transport my powerchair). I have no large family as I once did and no friends to spend time with. One doesn’t realize that when a body can’t get out or keep up anymore life and people must go on without you. Social media sites are ok but frankly fake. Most post an idealic life. But here I have found inspiration. Here I’ve found prayer buddies. Here I’ve found real life people like me, those of us in good or bad struggling to liive a faith filled and Godly life in our situations while supporting ‘friends’ to do the same. Merry Christmas to you each and everyone. May the smiling Babe bless you with His gift of life tonight and each and every day! (A special Merry Christmas Tillie ;)

Vicky G I hear you. Please know I will be thinking of you over the next few days I wish I could help you more. I am including something I read and it helps me when I feel the need to talk to God
" Speak, Lord . . . Your Servant Listens +++
Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man to God to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms, or from the heart. Here, then, in conversational verse, is a hypothetical talk the Lord might have with us, His children..........
It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much; it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother.
So, you want to ask me to do something for someone? Tell me his name. Is it your parents, your brothers, your friends? Tell me what you want me to do for them now. Ask much, very much: do not hesitate to ask. I love generous hearts who somehow can come to forget themselves to look after the needs of others. Speak sincerely to me then, of the poor you would console, of the sick you see suffering, of the strayed you yearn to see return to the right path, of those absent friends you want at your side again. Say at least one word for each, the ardent word of a friend. Remind me that I have promised to listen to every petition that arises from the heart, and is not a prayer for those whom your heart especially loves such a pray?
And for you: do you need a particular favor? Make a list, as it were, of your needs, and come and read it in my presence.
Tell me frankly that you are prone to anger, that you love sensuality and pleasure, that you are perhaps proud, variable, negligent . . . Ask me to come to the help of those efforts, many or few, which you undertake to free yourself from these faults.
Do not be ashamed, poor soul; there are in Heaven so many saints who had these same defects; but they prayed humbly, and little by little they saw themselves freed from them.
Do not hesitate to ask Me for spiritual and material goods; for health, memory, success in your work, enterprises and studies; all these I can give and I do give -- as long as they do not hinder, but rather assist your sanctification. Precisely today, what do you need? What can I do for you? If only you knew how much I would like to help you!
I an Praying for you right now Ken

Beautiful reflection on this eve of our Lord’s birth. Thank you lord for your saving grace. Merry Christmas to all!

The seeds of true love travel down the generations. That is the promise, the covenant God made with us.

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it bud and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it.… Isaiah 55: 9-11

Our experiences help to shape us, our example helps to shape others, the cycle is eternal. Out of our seeming misery comes our ministry. We may never see the finished product of our efforts but we can be assured The Lord uses everything for good. Well put Amy, happy Christmas everyone.
