'Deeper Awareness'

St. Thomas

...in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

- Ephesians 2:22

I live in a part of the country in which college football is...big! During the fall, entering and exiting stores, people who are strangers recognize their common bond and really do say, in passing, "Roll, Tide!" At the grocery checkout, class, ethnic and gender divisions disappear as deeply felt and informed predictions are made about next week or postmortems are offered on last week's matchups. I've experienced this surrounding college football. You may know of it from soccer or baseball in your community.

My challenge is to recognize ties that bind me to others that are deeper and, while invisible, even more real. In Christ, I am in communion with all the baptized. He has done this. We are his body, called to know each other and to be known in a hurting world, not by the colors we wear, but by our love.

Jesus, deepen my awareness of my communion with others in your body, the Church.

- Amy Welborn

Wow! Amy, that's very true.
Although I was already aware of this deep invisible bound and felt it in my Christian life, I recently got a taste of how far and wide that bound extends in Catholism. And I am so thankful God is calling me to a new hope and horiizon spiritually. I'm excited to discover Him in new all ways theough Catholic chuch and Catholic sisters and brothers.

Indeed, we are, "no longer strangers and sojourners, but (we) are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God........with Christ Jesus Himself as the capstone." Ephesians 2:19, 20b

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you (we) are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28

What is our common bond as we pass each other in the stores?

"Go out to all the world and tell the Good News. (Mark 16:15) Praise the LORD, all you nations; glorify Him, all you peoples!" (Psalm 117:1)

So how do we recognize each other in the household of God?

"A new command I (Jesus) give you (us): Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

"If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?" Matthew 5:46-47

"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I (Jesus) tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:43-45a

How often is the Name of Jesus mentioned in my conversations daily? Are His promises and His postmortems on my life mentioned in passing conversations in the supermarkets? How do I bless others as I encounter them? Actually, I am blessed when I mention His Name as I encounter others! "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." John 20:29

Lord Jesus, show me the opportunities today to tell others about You, Who You are, what you have done, where You are and that You are coming back! Amen!

Linda, Thank you for your prayers :-) Everyday, I learn my Scripture through LF Daily Catholic Devotions with the guidance of the Holy Spirit before I read the comments and I google whatever questions or words I have ending it with "Bible Verse" to see what else God has to say to me :-) I don't (actually can't because I am getting old) memorize Scriptures, but God does remind me of His Word when He talks to me :-)
