'A Spirit of Compassion'

...God...has indeed qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter brings death, but the Spirit gives life.

- 2 Corinthians 3:5, 6

Today, the spirit of that new covenant is needed more than ever. We seem overtaken by "letter" energy of constant negative judgment, attack and counterattack. Jesus replaced the Jewish purity code with the code of compassion. As ministers of a new covenant today, we need to ground our interactions in compassion. We need to not respond angrily--in person or on the Internet--to everyone we judge to be at fault.

I recently witnessed the spirit of compassion. The road we live on curves before the front of our building. A crashing sound brought me to the window--a car had hit the back of another that had slowed for the flashing pedestrian crossing signal. I braced for rage. The woman from the first car walked to the driver who had hit her, a sobbing young woman. She just put her arms around her. The spirit of compassion doubled the blessing that no one was hurt.

Patricia, thank you for your devotion.

I used to have somewhat of a temper in my younger years, I used to respond and react angrily, but as I have gotten older I have been filled with the Spirit of Compassion. I now don't respond at all or I just say "it's OK".

Kindness and compassion is God's way.

God Bless our Living Faith Family and continued prayers for all who are in need of our prayers.

Amen. Thank you Holy Father for this beautiful day and for today's Gospel. Thank you Lord for my faith, my life, and for my family. Thank you Holy Father most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconciliation. Please Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus Chris, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen

Thank you for your beautiful refection on compassion in action. It brought to mind 2 things I've learned. When something happens, take a breath and respond. Don't react.
And, whatever the problem, the answer is always LOVE.

I drive truck with a route that causes me to stop often. In my travels I witness road rage so often. It's the world we are in. I drive very defensive so as not to create road rage. Thank you Patrica Livingston for your comment. Amen.

In my younger days my fuse was rather short. When almost anyone would pass me on the road I would get angry and say nasty things to them under my breath. I have since engrained in my mind that no matter how others choose to drive they are still children of God. And as so they are my brothers and sisters in Christ. Now I try me best to bless them a pray that they think or their family, loved ones and God as they travel along. To remember that they have many that rely on them for so many things. This has brought great peace to my mind and soul. After all they may need a blessing that day.

Practicing kindness, compassion towards others is always a much better action than conflict.

When I reflect on today’s Gospel, I hear keeping God’s commandments front and center in our lives is so important. However, as our world changes, let us continue to pray we keep steadfast on our journey that keeps us in the light vs. darkness.

Dear Holy Spirt come, help guide us on what is truly more important.

Continue prayers for all of your Living Faith Family.

In Christ time on earth the "letter" was biblical law and considered the "facts" of the day, in my humble opinion I believe Christ is saying facts are of no importance by them selves it is the significance behind them that has value.
Peace be with you all!

A wonderful message! I am in the midst of some hassle with someone formerly close and God spoke to me through this, especially 'We need to not respond angrily - in person or on the internet - to everyone we judge to be at fault.' Praise God!

The spirit of compassion overrides judgement. It essentially gives birth to a new life. When we can embrace each other in love and compassion,we generate life rather than putting each other at fault. Prayers and blessings for all of the Living Faith Family.
