'God Is Guiding Us'

...I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.

- John 15:15

I was struck by a phrase in today's reading: "It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us...." (Acts 15:28). Paul is boldly proclaiming that this is not only a decree of men, it is also the decision of God. With this same conviction, Pope Francis recently canonized Mother Teresa: "We declare and define Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta to be a Saint." The Holy Father claimed to know with certainty that God welcomed her into heaven.

Can we honestly say that the Church has such a special relationship with God to know with certainty his mind? The answer is unequivocably "Yes!" Jesus said the Holy Spirit would guide the Church. He entrusted the keys of God's kingdom to Peter. I am filled with awe that God has given us this powerful grace.

Thank you, Lord, for the Spirit that animates our Church. Thank you for Peter who shepherds us amid the trials of life. We know they will lead us safely home.

This Easter Season, I have especially taken note of the impact that Acts has had on our present day Church. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we can see the Magisterium in place, and there are many references to the Church sending out disciples and making decisions together. We also have all the sacraments noted and the rudimentary rituals of the mass taking place.

Acts is possibly the best go-to place in the bible for early Church formation. Most of all we see how the Apostles took what our Lord gave them and put it into practice, as we should all do.

Amen. Thank you Holy Father for this day and for today's Gospel. Thank you Lord for my faith, my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconciliation. Please Lord have mercy. Amen

Indeed, the reason the Church has such a special relationship with God is in John 15:16a, "It was not you who chose Me, but I Who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,"

Paul called this relationship a mystery and gave us the example of marriage to describe this relationship of Christ and the Church in Ephesians 5:29-32, "For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of His body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband."

Here is what I learn:
* Christ nourishes the Church.
* The Church is the wife.
* Christ is the husband.
* I am a member of the Church.
* I shall leave my family (no longer the faith of my family).
* And become one with Christ ( but grows into the faith of my own).
* Christ loves me as His own body (He died on the cross for me).
* I, as a member of the Church, obey Christ.

This is how Jesus described this relationship in today's Gospel John 15:12-14, 15b, "Jesus said to His disciples: "This is My commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.....I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father."

* Love one another.......How?
* As Jesus loves me.......How?
* To lay down His life.......Wow!
* I am His friend.......How?
* When I love one another.......How?
* Willing to lay down my life as Jesus did.......Wow!
* Jesus continues to tell me everything He has heard from His Farther through the indwelling Holy Spirit in me.......Praise You Lord, Jesus Christ, Who reigns forever and ever. Amen!
