'Here and Now'

St. Pius V

I have told you this while I am with you.

- John 14:25

I was in a boat on a lake in Central America and feeling guilty about it. My youngest son, asked where he'd like to go on a summer trip, had answered "Mayan ruins in Guatemala." So here we were. Who does that? "Ridiculous," I thought. What an overprivileged pair!

Perhaps. Probably. But then I thought about how his older siblings still have me around. I'm not a spectacular mother, but I do try to be present. They're in their 20s and 30s and know that if they call, Mom will be there to listen and try to help. I'm in my late 50s, this boy beside me is 12. In 20 years, will he have his mother in the same way his siblings do now? Doubtful.

I settled back in the boat. Here we are, he and I. It's what we have, it's where we are--now.

Lord Jesus, quiet me so that I may rest in your loving presence right now, where I am.

- Amy Welborn

I am curious why Jesus didn't answer Judas' question directly in John 14:22, "Judas, not the Iscariot, said to Him (Jesus), "Master, then what happened that you will reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?" Or did He?

Jesus said in John 14:23-24, "
* Whoever loves Me will keep My Word,
* and My Father will love him,
* and We will come to him
* and make Our dwelling with him.
* Whoever does not love Me does not keep My Words;
* yet the word you hear is not Mine
* but that of the Father Who sent Me."

So Jesus IS revealing Himself to the world this way? How?

John 14:25-26, "
* I have told you this while I am with you.
* The Advocate, the Holy Spirit Whom the Father will send in my name --
* He will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you."

Paul explains it in 2 Corinthians 4:6-7, "For God, Who said, “Let Light shine out of darkness,”
* made His light shine in our hearts
* to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
* But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."

Paul describes his experience in Galatians 1:15-16a, "when God, Who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles,"

So it is with me, Lord Jesus! God set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by His grace, was pleased to reveal You, His Son, in me so that I might testify about You among those I encounter daily! I have been crucified with You and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Yourself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! (Galatians 2:20-21) Let Your light shine through me before others, that they may see Your good work in me and glorify Your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) Amen!

There are always two ways to look at a situation: positively and negatively. Had you sent your son on a trip with a group of boys supervised by a tour guide and college student chaperones then privileged it would be but loved not so much. May everyone strive for that connection of the heart.

Prayers to all going through difficult situations and a special prayer for Amy's 12-year old son. My father was 58 when I was born and he died when I was in the 3rd grade. For years I dreaded the thought of my Mom dying before me.

Well, this year I'll be 80 and my Mom died when I was in my 40s -- she was at my wedding and got to know my 3 daughters. She was orphaned when she was four and had a rough life but left life after having 12 children and many grandchildren and some g-grand children.

We have such a loving God! He is always with us. As the Father in Heaven even though we could see Him, we believed. The Father was sometimes a daunting figure in our minds and unapproachable. Then God, humbles himself and comes down as a man to live among us and to help us experience God. He is now seen and also approachable but He leaves us. But wait, there's more! He does not abandon us. He tells us that He will send His Holy Spirit to teach us and to guide us. Again we are mindful of the power of the number three. And we continuously feel His love, mercy and strength within us. How amazing!

Tina, I know the memory and pain never go away. My heart goes out to you. God has given you a gift to help others who are experiencing the same pain. For who can know what the pain is until they themselves experience it? Peace be with you!

Beth, I will be praying for your family today. It will be a very strong emotional day. The strength of the Lord will get all through this experience. I lost my husband 10 years ago in the same manner. He was 53. It is through the grace of God and seeking his voice that has gotten me through the pain and loss. God bless.

Beth, know that your brother, sister in law and the whole family will be in our prayers today.

It’s never too late. With being diagnosed with kidney cancer over a year a go now, live for today because we cannot get back tomorrow. I know you have heard it below but trust me do not take all of God’s blessings for granted.

Be in moment now. Have a great relationship with God today, use his blessings today to there fullest, Share his word with others now.

We cannot get tomorrow back.

God Bless.

Prayers for the family of my nephew who was killed by a drunk driver, along with 2 of his friends last July. Today is the sentencing hearing for the drunk driver. I will be attending to support my brother and his wife, and anticipate that it will be a very emotional day.

Beth, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I cannot even imagine how traumatic this is for all of you. Hard as it is, think of Jesus and forgiveness. It is the most freeing choice we have!
