'Seeing It Like It Is'

Remove from me the way of falsehood,
and favor me with your law.

- Psalm 119:29

Jesus came to rescue people who were their own worst enemies--that is, all of us. We have all had moments like the Sanhedrin had when they realized that they were attacking someone whose face shines like an angel. All of us have hurt those who have tried to help us.

On our own, we are stuck in self-deceit. Only by God's intervention can we see the world as it is. Through God, we see the people we've harmed as images of his love and ourselves as helpless sinners. We are the enemies whom Jesus calls us to love.

Who is Jesus? He is everything we need. When we suffer from lack, he is our food, our home, our mercy and our patience. He is our bread. He is our life--more real than the life we tend to think that we are living.

- Eve Tushnet

Why did the Sanhedrin "saw that his (Stephen) face was like the face of an angel" in Acts 6:15b and continued to persecute him?

We think angels are soft and gentle babies with wings! In fact, most often, the first words from these angels were “do not be afraid,” because extreme fear was such a common reaction. Why? Because they don't look like soft and gentle babies with wings!

The Sanhedrin were actually fearful of their own positions and existence!
* Acts 6:8, "Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people."
* Acts 6:10, "but they (Sanhedrin) could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he (Stephen) spoke."

We hurt (reject) those who we think are taking away our right positions and our current comfortable and routine living! Changes scare us!!! Especially when these changes imply that we have been doing things wrong :-(

What does Jesus say to me today? John 6:26, 27, 29, "
* you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
* Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.
* This is the work of God, that you believe in the One He sent."

I believe that this is the work of God that You sent Your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for my sins, and You raised Him up on the third day and He is seated on Your right hand side interceding for me! Jesus is the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to You except through Jesus :-) I believe and help my unbelief, Lord! I am confident of this, that You Who began a good work in me will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus' return. Amen!
