'Facing Our Fears'

Monday of Holy Week

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom should I fear?

- Psalm 27:1

The Church gives the name "Holy Week" to the final days leading up to Jesus' passion and death. Today's first reading does not explicitly name Jesus. Rather, he is called "my servant" and "my chosen one with whom I am pleased" (Isaiah 42:1). Every devout Jew would recognize this "servant" as the long-awaited Messiah. At the same time, the Messiah is not presented as a warrior or a king. He is seen as a gentle, nonviolent person who has compassion for oppressed and suffering people.

Psalm 27 portrays the servant as one who is not wracked with fear. His trust and confidence are firm because he relies on the power of God, not on his own.

Did you ever think of how many sins and wrong decisions are driven by fear? Fear of failing, of being criticized, of making a mistake? Jesus directs us to do the right thing in spite of our fears and to then trust God with the outcome.

Lord, help us to enter this Holy Week with confidence in the Lord Jesus.

- Fr. Martin Pable, O.F. M., Cap.

Fr. Marin, thank you for your encouraging devotion.

"Facing Our Fears"

During Holy Week let us face our fears with courage and bravery, let us continue to follow and wait on Jesus with trust and confidence in him.

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?"

"Allow Jesus to direct us to do the right thing in spite of our fears and then trust God with the outcome." Amen.

God Bless Everyone!

Amen. Thank you Holy Father for this beautiful day and for today's Gospel. Thank you Lord for my faith, my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconciliation. Please Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ, King of Endless Glory. Amen
