'Stronger Each Day'

Fifth Sunday of Lent

...the One who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his Spirit dwelling in you.

- Romans 8:11

My sons had been asking for a doorway pull-up bar, and when I saw one for 10 dollars at an estate sale, they finally got one.

It is hooked on the doorway that leads from their rooms to the living room, and it seems as if since we've had it up there, neither of them are able to pass through that doorway without hoisting themselves up a time or two. This tool for growing stronger is part of their daily lives now.

Fasting, prayer and more charity are all a part of my daily life during these weeks of Lent. These spiritual tools may always be available to me, but during Lent, I encounter them daily in a more focused way. I can't pass them by. I can't ignore the invitation they provide to strengthen my spirit and open myself to the new life that awaits.

Lord, may my acts of self-denial strengthen my spirit today.

Great picture of the pull up bar, Amy!

It serves as a reminder of my rejection of the indwelling Holy Spirit at times if I ignore it passing by. If I do a few pull ups so to speak, I weaken my flesh and allow the Spirit to be strong! You see....the Holy Spirit is always strong in me, it is a matter of breaking down my flesh so the Holy Spirit can rebuild it according to God's plan!

Paul told us in Roman 8:8-9, "and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.f But you are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him."

Does the Holy Spirit dwell in me?........If Christ is in me, then the Holy Spirit is in me!

I also wonder what Jesus was thinking and feeling when "He wept!" He knew and predicted that Lazarus would die when He stayed where He was for two more days, so the glory of God would be revealed. And He was "perturbed and greatly troubled" when He saw them crying at the tomb, why?

I don't know, but I can speculate........it makes a great conversation with Jesus now and when I see Him face to face :-)

This much I do know.....even though I am dead, I am alive in Christ! Even though I am weak, I am strong in the Holy Spirit! Amen!

Breaking down the flesh,I have never thought of it that way, this is an insight of Spirit; thank you Salina.

Yes, it's true. Just as a good breakfast is good for our physical selves, a daily devotion reading first thing in the morning is good for our spiritual selves. Thank you Amy.
