'Miracles and Ministry'

Sts. Cyril and Methodius

He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it.

- Mark 7:36

Here we see Jesus curing a deaf man in front of a group of people. He tells his disciples not to speak about it. If a miracle happened in front of your very eyes, could you keep quiet about it? If it was something that defied logic or current medical or scientific explanation? If it was done by someone who sought no compensation, no recognition for this amazing act of healing? Could you hold back and not share this with everyone you know? I certainly would not find it easy to remain quiet about it.

Jesus' ministry was much more than his miraculous healing powers. He was sent to save us from sin, to give us the gift of eternal life, to teach the word of God. The miracles are wonderful, but they are only signs of the central mission of Jesus' ministry on earth.

- Paul Pennick

Paul thank you for this wonderful message.

Yes, you are dead on, while here in Israel, I am experiencing these same stories and geographically and many are close to one another.

I can see how each wanted to be the first yelling at the top of their lungs the wonderful miracles that just happen.

I think a lot of us feel inside this same emotion when we do something that has a positive outcome for someone else, but we need to do just the opposite, be humble, quiet, but inside you feel pretty terrific. There is nothing wrong with your inside feelings.

Yesterday for us we saw and stood on the exact site where Jesus asked Peter 3 times, Peter son of Jonah do you love me. Peter responded each time, Lord you know I love you and each time Jesus said feed my sheep. I was thinking maybe Jesus asked Peter this 3 times because earlier, before the resurrection Peter has denied Jesus 3 times.

Either way, yesterday I had the opportunity to stand on this exact holy ground when Simon son on Jonah became Peter and accepted the challenge of leading God's sheep, us.

I am moved, I ma change, I will continue to give my life to my God and believe and follow his teachings to the day I die.

Dear Lord Jesus, hear these prayers of this wonderful beautiful Living Faith Family. their families and their friends this day, may you hear their cry, may to her the prayers. Comfort them, come into their heart and fill them with strength to get through their day. They know you love them and are at their side always.

May we continue to be safe here in Israel. May we continue on our journey with you, where you walked. Open our hearts, minds and souls to listen to your teachings today.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and prayers. I feel you are all with me these days on my journey, pilgrimage with Jesus in the Holy Land.

Sincerely Amen

One element we see from the accounts in the gospel is that Christ required the one to be healed have faith in His and God's ability to restore them. The miraculous healings in my humble opinion seem to confirm and energize the faith of the cured to the point they wish to spread this faith to others.
Peace be with you all!

Thank you Paul for your devotion.

I believe that Jesus performed and still performs miracles because of their/our Faith, true, deep, humble faith in our Lord Jesus, The word of God, sent to us in Body and Blood, in the Flesh.

God sent his only son, in the Flesh to walk the earth, Ministering and spreading the word of God, His Father, that is the biggest Miracle of all. Those who truly believe in that truth has true, deep, humble faith in our Lord Jesus. I believe that is why he has performed and still performs miracles, because of our faith.

"Jesus did not and still does not perform miracles in the past and now because of their/our "Lack of Faith"."

I believe He ordered them not to tell anyone about His miracles He performed because He wanted and still wants us to focus on His Ministry not the miracles.

God Bless our Living Faith Family.

God's foreknowledge of the rebellion of His people did not change His mind or His plan for His people :-) I thank God for His character!!!

1 Kings 11:30-32, "
* Ahijah took off his new cloak, tore it into twelve pieces, and said to Jeroboam: “Take ten pieces for yourself;
* the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will tear away the kingdom from Solomon’s grasp
and will give you (Jeroboam) ten of the tribes.
* One tribe shall remain to him (Solomon) for the sake of David my servant, and of Jerusalem, the city I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.’”

1. God's heart and human's benefit in Psalm 81:10-11, "There shall be no strange god among you nor shall you worship any alien god. I, the LORD, am your God Who led you forth from the land of Egypt.”
2. Human's hearts and God's response in Psalm 81:12-13, “My people heard not my voice, and Israel obeyed me not; So I gave them up to the hardness of their hearts; they walked according to their own counsels.”
3. God's exhortations and human's blessings in Psalm 81:14-15, “If only My people would hear Me, and Israel walk in My ways, quickly would I humble their enemies; against their foes I would turn My hand.”

My heart is opened, O Lord, to listen to the Words of Your Son, my God and my Savior!!! Amen! (Acts 16:14b)

* Physical healing is lesser; Spiritual healing is greater!
* Physical healing is temporary; Spiritual healing is eternal!
* Physical healing is the battle; Spiritual healing is the war which Jesus has already won! Praise Him :-)

Amen. Thank you Holy Father for this beautiful day and for today's Gospel. Thank you Lord for my faith, my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of forgiveness and reconciliation. Please Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ, King of Endless Glory. Amen

I believe that Jesus performed many of these miracles because people didn't believe what he was teaching about God. They needed to see physical proof of God's power to help them believe. God came to us in physical form (Jesus) because of our unbelief.
Heavenly Father, I believe. Help my unbelief. Amen!

Indeed, Beth!

Matthew 9:2-6, "Some men brought to Him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So He said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”

Luke 5:19-24

Yes Beth and Salina I totally agree and the story of the paralytic lowered by his friends and healed by Jesus is a perfect example of what Jesus was teaching humanity.

It occurs many times in the gospel after performing a miracle that Jesus requests people not to tell anyone about what he did or perhaps to go and tell the priests. As far as I can remember in most if not all cases people did not comply. As you say Paul and I agree it would be hard for anyone to remain silent after such an event.
I always wonder what was His reason for this and I think you have it right Paul it wasn’t just his humility, he didn’t want his physical or visible miracles to distract from the inner healing and growth of mind and spirit. He came to guide and empower all of us to make the journey to freedom. This is the more important miracle.
In writing this comment I may have answered my own long time question? I am thankful for the prompt in today’s devotional.
Keeping the prayers going.

Yes, I agree. Jesus wanted us to delve deeper into what prompted the miraculous healing power and what His presence meant and what special powers from God enabled these things to occur. A deeper meaning for sure. Thank you and blessings.

Yes, Patrick! Jesus did not want people focusing on the physical miracles He performed (no matter what the physical miracles were/are, all did and will die), but rather the message He proclaimed and the death He was going to die. The same is true today. God would rather that we be focused on the healing miracle of Salvation through Jesus Christ instead of focusing on other healings and/or miracles.

As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. And it increased the envy and hatred of the Pharisees to plot against Jesus killing Him. Did the disobedience hasten the crucifixion of Jesus? May be? But God's plan did and will not change by human efforts.

* Isaiah 14:26-27, "This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations. For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart Him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?"
* Job 42:1-2, "Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted."
* Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."
